charles: right.> there are some stocks at reasonable valuations with their growth rates and there is others that just don't make sense give entheir growth rates. it is really a balancing act between those two things. charles: let me pick up on that. earlier today i spoke to a group of high school seniors, cat skill high schoolkids. asking the market. guess what? they all love nvidia. everyone has an opinion on it these days. i saw one chart says it is super-duper expensive because of price to sales ratio. this is n video. this is all the other super megacap bang a.i. names. is that the right way to vail wait this? >> no, you really can't lit at it on a price to sales basis because number one you're ignoring any debt which in this case doesn't matter and you're ignoring profitability more importantly and how fast you're growing your revenues. if you look at nvidia, trading at 60 times price to earnings ratio but it is growing revenues this year at close to 50%. to put that in perspective the s&p is ab

charles: i think so as well.ocking it like a sore thumb and it'll come and investment thesis and that means you go so much against the grain. >> they were two things. one is the consensus call was the economy was supposed to fall into a recession early in 2023. and falling into a recession and the longest a stock market has gone being in a bear market before a recession started was 17 mo months and usually around five or six months and we were getting far from the january 2022 peak to say the economy will either go into a recession needily or the stock market needed to rally and that was one point. the other point is that since everyone was so bearish, not just strategist and transitions flows into equity mutual funds and all that was negative. is there anybody that wanted to be bearish and was positioned and any sort of good news was probably going to be positive for the market and enable a rally to take place. charles: this is -- if it is still a bear market it'll be the second second longest in history and sec

charles: right.here's no doubt that 3.7 is the magic number today to, 3.7 unemployment. another month like this and you have 4%. so with that in mind though, we had construction yesterday that came in a little bit better than expected, we also had the ism numbers would have been unmitigated disasters. when you say a mixed bag, it's really a mixed bag. goods, you know, the supply chain fixed and everything, that's sort of -- we're not worried about that anymore. how do you handicap the service economy that won't stop in part because of the the yolo, we've got to take a flight somewhere even if we can't afford it, max out the card, to other things that are really happening including drawdown cans many excessive savings? >> yeah, i think it's a matter of time, right? it's a matter of time. like you say, excesses, the excess savings are coming down. we have the student loan payments picking up in the fall. i'm starting to see at lot of sales out there right now, a lot of discounted merchandise. we had so

charles: right.> but less strength. >> especially when credit card rates are 20%. department store rates are like 28%. >> exactly. charles: talk about the bank walk. feels like wall street is looking past it, maybe it is over, maybe it it is not. $472 billion in the first quarter out, out of defoss its, right? four quarters in a row. billions and billions of dollars have come out of the banking deposits. obviously the big banks can weather the storm. how much longer than small banks weather the storm? >> here is the thing about deposits, it is a one and a quarter trillion loss since the peak. that is huge. the key to that is margin, right? the marginal cost of lending is significantly higher because in order to fund new loans banks have to borrow. they have to borrow from federal home loan from the fed rates close to 5% that means raising rates they charge for loans, they're being really choosy who they loan to. charles: we've got a chart, folks, these are the lending standards that chris is talking
