kron 4's charles clifford is live for us tonight in orinda with details about what triggered the fire well, it's not even summer yet and most of the hills here in the east bay area already brown and dry and that means higher fire danger. just before 1pm, a sedan parked along the side of highway 24 westbound caught fire and sparked a grass fire that quickly spread up the hillside. this blaze required a two alarm response that included crews responding from orinda, san ramon valley and cal fire.the chp also shutdown several lanes of highway 24 westbound so fire fighters could move equipment into place.fire crews on foot worked to surround the burnzone and flame retardant was dropped on the hillside to keep the flames from spreading north.by around 3pm, cal fire tweeted out that they had the fire 75 percent contained and by early evening he fire appeared to be under complete control.in all, 25 acres were burned. . mostly grass. . . no structures were lost and no injuries have been reported. no word yet on exactly why the car caught fire along highway 24.in orinda, charles clifford kron 4 news.
