sandbagging efforts are also starting today in charles city as people there prepare for the cedar river to rise. we spoke with the floyd county sherrif's office this morning and they said sandbags will be available to charles city residents and businesses today. starting at 1:00pm, people can come pick them up in the hyvee parking lot. the 5 to 10 inches that fell in cedar river basin will now cause the river to rise well above flood stage this weeken cedar rapids police now say they never found a specific or credible threat to jefferson high school. their investigation was related to a 15-year- old boy who shot and killed himself at the high school, earlier this month. after the suicide, police investigated the student's social media posts for shooting at the school. they found none. dubuque police arrested a second man they say was involved in a downtown, weekend shooting earlier this month. charles layfield faces attempted murder and weapons charges. he is 29 and from dubuque. police say he was involved in a shooting near 19th and jackson streets around one in the morning on septembe

it's northeast of charles city. those thunderstorms will cranking across northeast iowa and that's the area that will seat heavy rain's tonight and right into the daytime hours tomorrow. these storms extend all the way back into nebraska. once they get going they will continue marching across eastern iowa tonight an why most of the area will see a lot of rain. you can see the amount of moisture. this is a tropical system moving into mexico and look at that moisture coming up from the southwest. @into the gulf of mexico that's over the top of us. our atmosphere is loaded and charged as far as moisture goes. any thunderstorms that can develop in this situation can crank out the reins in a short period of time. especially when you have a friend that is stationary and scatter across the northeastern wisconsin. eventually it will start thinking slowly southward. along that front fee showers have a tendency to redevelop and moved into the same general area. the training type situation lends itself to heavy rain and flash

primarily these are smaller streams in this area but this is the river which extends all the way from charles city toward cedar rapids and it enters the mississippi river. that is a big concern now. we will show you some of the. objections -- projections. there is a crest of 99.2 feet anticipated. that is 2 feet be twice -- between the all-time record. there is major flooding anticipated there. crest is expected to reach 22.1 feet on sunday and in the cedar rapids area we are looking at crest. that is a big number. the only other time was in 2008 will we exceeded that with 31 feet. first of all, this is based on model input of how much rain might fall. the ring could be later or heavier. the numbers are in flux. they could go up or down. keep that in mind. the latest projections are 21.1 if we reach that level, you can see how the water will flood the area along the river. you can see a lot of residential areas that went under in 2008. they would be impacted again. here's the flash flood watches. these have been extended into friday due to the additional rain tonight. we get to the radar, you can

talking about the cedar river now which is expected to start flooding northwest counties around charles city. a crest expected in ed in cedar falls. the crest there expected around 25 feet. that's definitely major. and from there it gets on down towards vin ton, the crest there expected late on sunday at around 22.1 feet and then evenly the river comes on down toward cedar rapids and at this point we are anticipating a crest or tuesday. but again this is very much dependent on how much rain falls in the next 24 hours. our models are estimated additional rainfall. that's going to change the crest. so right now keep in mind that's fluid and really depends a lot on what happens in the next 24 hours. in the meantime this is what happens when we reach a crest of 24 feet. there's the major stem going normally it's this blue area where the river is found. if we get that 24-foot crest you can see how it expands into the urban areas and into the downtown as well. this would be a major deal for cedar rapids and we need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best here in this next 24 hours but i can
