kron 4's charles clifford reports. according to the ntsb, the pilot controlling asiana flight 214 was making his first landing attempt in a boeing 777 at s-f-o. he was controlling the plane from the left hand seat in the cockpit. the training pilot, who was assisting with the landing, was in the right hand seat, there was also a relief first officer in the cockpit jump seat and a fourth pilot seated in the plane's cabin. according to the ntsb, the training pilot says that as the plane descended towards runway 2-8 left, the crew set the planes auto throttle to the required airspeed. >> he set the auto throttle at 137 knots and he assumed that the auto throttles were maintaining speed. but moments later, the pilots realized that the plane was to low and travelling to slow. they attempted to correct the problem by throttling up but by then it was to late. the landing gear and tail of the plane struck the seawall, the aircraft broke apart and skidded down the runway. ntsb chairman deborah hersman says that investigators wi

kron4's charles clifford has details. ght now the land around the eastern approach to the bay bridge is filled with caltrans construction yards and equipment, but what work on the new east unspent is finished, this peninsula of land will undergo a dramatic transformation. this is an animation of what the same spot will eventually look like. the project is called gateway park. the park will feature a stunning 360 degree views of the new bridge, as well as the ports of oakland. it will also be open space, a fishing pier, a transportation museum, a shuttle bus, a pavilion, and a boardwalk. it will also include a biking and walking paths. for the first time, visitors will be able to buy or walk all the way from oakland to a boil island. the park is a joint effort between nine and bay area agencies included the city of oakland and caltran. the workers get to to complete in several phases over the next couple of years. and the news room, charles clifford, kron 4 news. >>anny: the oakland city council will decide next week whethe

. >> pam: kron 4's charles clifford has an update.as you might remember, back in march caltrans discovered that 32 bolts on the new bay. >> reporter: bridge had cracked, possibly leaving the structure vulnerable to earthquakes. because the bolts couldn't be repaired, engineers decided to fix the problem by installing a network of cables and support saddles to replace the bolts. this work is scheduled to be completed by december 10th and right now caltrans says they don't plan to open the bridge before then. but crews also plan to install metal shims, or plates, into this structure while the saddle retrofit work is happening. and it's been suggested that the shims would make this structure strong enough to open the bridge before the saddle retrofit is finished. >> reporter:for the moment caltrans won't commit to opening the bridge before december but they are exploring the shims idea. they've asked the federal highway administration to review the plan. a report is expected in mid august. >> reporter:no matter when repair work on the br

kron 4's charles clifford reports.the n-t-s-b continues the crash.survivors were able to return to the scene just four days after terrifying accident. this is video with our helicopter partnership with a-b-c 7 news. in it you can see charter buses arriving at the scene and the survivors out on the tarmac observing the wreckage. it is unclear what they were doing although they were accompanied by n-t-s-b agents. while the pilots and crew are under investigation, some of the flight attendants came out publicly to speak at a news conference yesterday. six of the twelve who were on board agreed to speak, but several were overwhelemed by tears. six other attendants remain in the hospital. some of the attendants helped passengers get off passengers could get off the plane. among those injured in the crash we're three flight attendants who were seated near the back of the plane and ejected when the tail was ripped off as it made contact with the sea wall. asked his the new eastern span of the bay bridge will *not open on labo

kron4's charles clifford has a virtual look at the scene. light 214 crashed at 11:26 a.m. on july 6th. after striking the sea wall, the plane broke apart and skidded down runway to eight--2-8 left. the fuselage came to rest here just to the south of the runway. the ntsb has not completed interviews with the flight crew and we have a clearer picture of what happens next. the boeing 777 has eight doors. there are doors for on each side of the plane. according to the ntsb, during the crash emergency slides at door one right and to write deployed inside the plane. that's not supposed to happen. the slides should deploy outside the plan and only if the door is open. there was a single flight attendants sitting near door one right and another near to right. both were injured when those lights inflated-test slides inflated. at the rear of the plane, there were four flight attendees-attendance seated for left and for right. the ntsb says that three of these attendants were ejected from the rear of the plane during the crash three survived. back at th
