cultural outcomes and intellectuals operated under the leadership of french military officer charles degaulle. ron, the author of "when paris went dark" was born in new orleans and educated at tulane university and princeton university. when he was a student at tulane in the 60s he went to paris for the first time. while he was there he wondered what the city had been like under german occupation. it wasn't until 10 years ago that he turned his musings into a book. the result is a meticulously researched book that utilized a range of resources including diaries, archives come interviews, photographs and fi film. ron has written an astute unbiased book that captures not only the dark days of paris and its citizens but the mystery and loneliness of the young german troops as well. and we just learned today that it is in the top 10 list for the national book award this year so that's really exciting and great news.
