we're joined by our very special guest philly fed president charles plosser. >> i'm here with charlessser. let's talk first about your economic outlook. the statement seemed to be very pessimistic and almost seemed to ignore the better economic data that's been out there. what's your take on it? >> i thought it was a little bit pessimistic. i would prefer a little more optimism in the statement. it's not that we're going to take off like a sky rocket going into this year, but do i think things are looking better, the employment picture and labor market looks a little better and i think there's reason to be hopeful that we're going to make this continuous modest progress toward recovery. >> give us an idea of yo gdp and unemployment outlook. >> i'm looking for gdp to be own about 3%, which is a little above trend. it not an outrageous forecast. maybe people are at 2.5. the difference between 2.5 and 3%, our ability with that degree of accuracy is pretty poor. >> what about unemployment? >> we've seen unemployment fall almost a full percentage point in the last year. the last that happe

steve liesman spoke exclusively earlier today with the philadelphia fed president, charles plosser, what did you learn? >> i learned he's not among the pessimis pessimists. he was one of the three fomc members we learned, remember we got those rate forecasts last week, he's one of the three who sees a rate hike coming in 2012. and in fact he's one of the more optimistic ones economically. he does see growth at 3% or around 3% in 2012. and forecasted unemployment could fall to 8% or lower by the end of this year. and he thought that the statement that came out at the head of that fomc policy statement last week on the economy was a little too down beat for his taste. >> i thought it was a little bit pessimistic. i would have preferred a little more optimism in the statement. i think the outlook has improved in the last several months. it's not that we're going to take off like a skyrocket going into this year, but i do think that the things are looking better, the employment picture, the labor market looks a little better. i think there's reason to be hopeful that we're going to make this

meantime, cnbc's steve liesman has an exclusive interview with philly fed president charles plosser attune in to that. jim rogers is still with us. jim, your take on friday's jobs numbers that we are expecting. we saw a down tick, obviously an important issue for president obama. is there enough data points in the market, and do you feel you're seeing enough to anticipate this number could tick down or are we going to tread water where we are? >> jackie, this is 2012. there's an election in november. you're going to see some nice numbers coming out of the u.s. government all year long because mr. obama likes his job and wants to keep it. you've got to understand this happens every four years. they fake the numbers all the time, but especially in election years. i don't know if you noticed mr. bernanke last week said he's going to change the way inflation numbers are reported so that they look better. i mean, this is 2012. there's nothing new. you are going to see better inflation numbers reported because they changed the method again. you are going to see all sorts of wonderful improve
