thank you so much for that back with me now, my law enforcement my panel, john miller, charles ramsey, steve moore, jonathan wackrow and i wonder chief ramsey what are your expectations in this briefing that could happen momentarily involving a palm beach sheriffs and us secret service mean, the first brief thing normally, you don't necessarily get all of your questions answered. >> they may not have all the answers to all the questions, but i think you'll get a lot of information if this is actually a suspect in this case, you'll you'll get a pretty good sense now whether or not they released the name that's another matter because they still got locations. they've got to secure our home maybe if he's got a business, they want to interview relatives because the minute that names out there, media and every but he also is going to be all over it so you want to you want to do as much as you can before that takes place. so there's a lot of stuff that still has to happen. but my sense is that you get you'll get quite a bit of information to know whether or not it was this an attack? direct

i have juliette kayyem and charles ramsey with me. juliette and some of those photos you see the sunsetting. it is certainly night here on the east coast what does that mean in terms of there, their law enforcement's efforts? on the scene, there that's a great point. >> i was i was curious is just based on my own unfortunate experience, just like chief ramsey on comment on all of these of of a sniper, if it is a sniper working in day daytime, it's not it's not unheard of the two theories of what could be happening now a sort of road rage incident that got out of hand and is now impacting both sides of the interstate or purposeful sniper who is look targeting random victims. the day time assault of it is is unique, but it also means though fortunately that there were eyewitnesses, people would have been able to see if this person was in a car where they were they were they on the sides? did they ron, did they jump into another car? so that's the good news. but now of course is daytime comes as nighttime crimes, excuse me. there's going

discuss what's going on with the former philadelphia police commissioner, former dc police chief charles ramsey. chief ramsey. what's your reaction specifically to these two charges? >> well, i suspect there'll be more charges to follow, but these are sufficient to hold him in custody. they're very serious charges. i mean, it felonies, but as time goes on, i believe additional charges will be filed and what did you think of what we just heard from the martin county sheriff tk william snyder at that briefing that he just had because he did provide some additional new information about how they were able in martin county just north of palm beach county on interstate 95 to go ahead and stop this vehicle and get the detainee out. >> and for all practical purposes, charge him well, the key and he mentioned this was the witness that had the presence of mind to take a photograph of the car and the license tag what that allowed them to do them at least in west palm would be to run the tag, put out a be on the lookout alert to all law enforcement in the area. >> so they had a description of the vehicle

charles ramsey is with us, chief ramsey, you're the former dc police chief?ormer police commissioner in philadelphia? we saw the parents of the michigan school shooter, ethan crumbley held accountable for their son's actions. could we see something similar happen in this case? >> i hope so. because what i'm hearing now that it's totally irresponsible. >> what the father did. now, remember law enforcement knocked on his door and told him that they had received tips that the son was planning some kind of school shooting now the police. didn't have enough to take it much further than that but that alone, if that were you, if that will, your child don't you think he'd start paying a little bit of attention to what they're doing. and you certainly wouldn't go out and buy an assault weapon form. it is absolutely crazy. in my opinion. there's no excuse. and if anybody should be prosecuted in a case like this, it should be this particular father. there's just no excuse for it. >> it's interesting john, to charles is point what do we know about why officials didn't ta

scope, two backpacks, and a gopro camera were recovered hello to our panel right now and get charles ramsey assessment of what's going on. the fact that there was a scope, chief ramsey, it says to me, it explains i think in part, why the fbi has concluded this appears to have been a second assassination attempt against trump yeah, i think you're right. >> i mean, clearly in my mind anyway, that's the appropriate classification for this particular incident. were just fortunate. we're very lucky. we were lucky in july in butler, pennsylvania and again, today. but luck only go so far. and so everyone has to be incredibly vigilant enhance security, not just for the former president before all of the candidates, because we were just in an environment right now where you have a lot of unstable people who apparently are not afraid he to try to actually harm someone so we're ortunate that the secret service agent was able to spot this and able to take immediate action and prevent a tragedy from occurring. >> i mean, i secret service agent spotted what the barrel of a rifle sticking out from those t

joining me now, cnn, senior law enforcement analyst charles ramsey sir. good morning to you. i always grateful to have you on the program. let's just start kind of big picture here. this is obviously the second time that something like this has happened in this incredibly unprecedented election season you for there from the sheriff, what are the next steps in the investigation here and how do you see the job that the secret service is doing in this instance? >> well there are a couple of things. kasie, first of all, they're going to continue their investigation. they executed search warrants yesterday probably on the home, definitely on the car maybe a business they'll be seizing any electronic equipment, whether it's computers, smart smartphones, what happened? and you interviewing family, friends, and so forth. so all that is still continuing the golf club itself is still a crime scene. i would imagine they shut things down overnight because of the darkness. but they'll start again in the morning to complete whatever search. there'll be conducting of the of the golf club to

so charles ramsey to you, of course, this is a great concern for a variety of reasons, but it also comes following the attempted assassination of former president trump in butler, pennsylvania this summer. so talk to me about a, the heightened concerned heightened security around him and now what seems to be a very quick response to these reports? >> well, i think there's a heightened concern. certainly around the former president, but what all the candidates, because of the environment we find ourselves in right now, unfortunately, so the secret service, local law enforcement, state police, wherever those candidates happened to be, there's going to be a heightened sense of awareness and certainly security to an extent, as far as what happened today steve got it 100%, right? i mean, there's nothing at this point that indicates or any shots fired at president. we don't even know whether or not they were within earshot or that they received information. there were shots that were fired within a relative relatively close proximity and they're just taking an abundance of caution, moving them

was his tire head blown out or something, but it was much louder than a tire blowing out chief charles ramsey is now joining us. i mean, it's a frightening situation. you're driving down a highway and you're being shot at. i mean, what do you make of this situation in terms of how this must have played out? a suspect shooting from a car, from a, from a static location. what are your thoughts? >> well, first of all, we're very fortunate. no one was killed in this particular incident. it is a frightening experience. you know, how you feel when rock hits your windshield, when you're on the highway. imagine if it's a bullet that strikes your vehicle while you're driving, i don't know if he was stationary or moving at the time. it could be either one. he could have been on an overpass taking a shot, could have been in a vehicle will get more information as today moves forward. but right now there is a man hunt. apparently they have a, an area that they're concerned about, that they probably have already cordoned off the best of their ability to begin a search as soon as daylight hits let's talk ab

to turn now to cnn, senior law enforcement analyst and former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey. commissioner ramsey, thank you first all for joining us this morning. but tell us when it comes to this shooting, how unusual is it for a mass casualty event to have police searching for potentially multiple suspects? >> actually, it's not all that unusual. i've seen several cases where you've had more than one individual firing into a crowd. it's unusual in the sense that when we're usually talking about mass shootings, it's one shooter multiple people dead or injured. what have you but on the street when you have these things occurring for in cities unfortunately, just not all that unusual what's your reaction, chief to yet another mass shooting in america, which that's what you're waking up to. well, i mean, it's not a surprise. it's not going to stop. i mean, so i think we're over 400 so far this year when you take a look at actually what's going on around the country, no place is really, immune from having something like this take place. there in the early stages of this investi

former secret service agent paul ii cloth, and former philadelphia police commissioner general charles ramsey andrew, let me start with you first. what's your reaction to what the president said about the secret service? i mean, this has been a conversation in washington for some time now that the secret service does not have enough resources jim, you know, as well as i do from your time at the white house, the secret service has been underfunded for years, decades maybe. >> they have constantly tried to do more with less. >> but they really unfortunately have to push their personnel resources to the limit. to cover down on the ever-expanding number of protectees that they're responsible for combine that with the threat picture that we're looking at today. things are undeniably more dangerous and more complicated in terms of the domestic threat picture targeting people like former president's certainly former president trump. but potentially others as well. and political leadership at all levels. so this is a time when the service desperately needs to be supported by congress to have the reso

defense attorney joey jackson, and cnn senior law enforcement analyst and former police chief charles ramsey. ramsey chief, let me talk to you first. when you see this where this video do things go wrong in your view think there's a couple of things. >> first of all, but the video did not show and that is the initial interaction between the first officer and mr. hill after the stop was made mr. hill originally he said he was co-operative, he was not even really confrontational. the officer asked him to roll down as window. why is that important? i mean, he had darkly tenant windows for officer safety purposes. you need to be able to see inside and see what's going on mean it a traffic stop. you never know what you have. now, having said that the actions of the first officer, i didn't have a problem with it was the second officer to one with the black sleeves underneath his shirt. he was aggressive from the very start when he was ordered when you ordered mr. hill out of the car, they didn't even give them a chance to get out of the car on his own. he just yanked him out of the car, putting fa

law enforcement analyst, former dc police chief, former police commissioner of philadelphia, charles ramsey. ramsey, genuine chief. you've been you've been following this from literally the moments we were getting these first reports end of this all unfolding as we're learning more about this man's background, there are pieces of a puzzle, pieces of a larger, bigger puzzle. what in his background sticks out to you, grabs your attention right now? >> well, he was arrested in charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction obviously, he has a criminal record. the other charges, my understanding, a relatively minor, but as john miller just mentioned, we don't know the disposition of that particular case, but obviously that stands out. the other thing that stands out to me is an open question and that is how did he know the president was going to be on the golf course? i mean, this is an individual that apparently has scouted it out when you look at the map you see a roadway very close to holes five and six, which it would make sense that that would be a location if you are going to try
