during 100 hours of interviews with investigative journalist charles robinson. nef inshapiro spilled the goods. he told robinson that he gave lavish gifts to 72 current and former hurricane players and recruits. the alleged gifts are shocking. hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, prostitutes. cars, rides on his yacht, paid trips and even jewelry. shapiro tells yahoo sports that he offered bount is for injuring opposing players. it gets worse. shapiro, the booster, says in one case he paid for an abortion for a woman who claims a miami hurricane player got her pregnant. charles robinson spent 11 months investigating shapiro's allegations and audited thousands of pages of financial and business records to examine his claims. here is what you should know about nefin shapiro. he was convicted in a $900 million ponzi scheme and sentenced to prison in june. he first made allegations about a year ago. among other things, he says six miami coaches were aware of his activities. and he said that he did it because "nobody stepped in to stop me." we reached out to miam

we'll have charles robinson, reporter with yahoo! sports and he broke this story. hone. what an incredible couple days, charles, as we've seen the story develop each and every hour it seems. what do you think is the most significant development as far as in your mind of what's happened next with this program? >> well in the last 24 hours we've been told by a source that the university of miami that the ncaa has informed miami that it's typical 4-year statute of limitations may not apply in this case. essentially what the university has been informed of is that there's a clause with the statute of limitations called the willful violators clause and that nevin shapiro, because he was a willful violator he someone who engaged in consistent rule-breaking for a long period of time, knowingly engaged in it, that opens up for the ncaa to go back, far further than just four years. now they can go all the way back to 2002 where nevin shapiro says he first began to operate in terms of breaking ncaa rules. that could have a significant impact on miami, almost doubling the amou

's the reporter who broke the story. he joins us now on the phone. charles, thank you for your time. >> thanks for having me. >> let me be honest here. a lot of people are saying they're not really surprised by this. we've heard this kind of thing so often. what makes this miami case, though, more scandalous than perhaps some of the other things we've seen and heard in the past? >> well, i think, you know, really just the length of time that was involved here. we're talking about eight years. we're talking about the number of individuals involved. we were able to corroborate as many as 72 athletes who received some form of benefits, seven coaches and three support staff members. we either had knowledge or took part in some rules violations with this booster, nevin shapiro. i think the fact that nevin shapiro is an individual who engaged in a $930 million ponzi scheme, one of the worst financial scandals in american history also adds something to this. really, the length, the breadth an
