chief investment strategist for charles schwab, good morning. >> good morning. >> 175,000 is a good number. i think the word weather was mentioned 113 times in the jobs report. how does that cloud the sense of where things are right now? >> it clouded the jobs picture and every week economic indicator in the last couple months had weather cited as a factor. a lot of indicators don't ever mention weather and they have. there is a -- the household survey, part of the jobs report that generates the unemployment there's a subquestion that doesn't get the headline or attention. basically, do you have a job or not working during the survey period because of weather? it's a specific 275,000 responded in the affirmative in december. 265,000 in january and 601,000 in february. those are huge numbers seasonably. it is unquestionably been a factor. on those heels, look at february there was bad weather and an up tick in jobs. look at construction workers. a lot of additions there. i guess my question is how do they know weather was a big factor when you have those areas that saw growth? >> what's int

optionsxpress by charles schwab. and put this thing a little bit on the back burner.takes the spotlight off of how well america is doing. i think that's the spotlight we should be focused on. but also forecast -- the forecast did not match what the expectations were. where do you you stand with her? >> i think they are worth between $4 billion and $5 billion. i had uir on "mad money" last week and that's an incredible company. the car business got competitive which is incredible given the fact that the justice department allowed so many mergers. i recognized they're doing everything they can to bring out value and the stock is fairly valued where it will open this. >> we had the head of bsfm on, and they are increasing capital. is that a play you're on so far? >> this is the year of nonresidential which is a gigantic market. people don't recognize when you want to put people to work you build big things. a lot of the companies i deal with say it is happening right now. i can't find a lot of banks that say it's happening but a lot of industrial companies say it is happ

i think you'll find if you look at it that even people that use discount brokerages, charles schwab,, and td ameritrade, people that execute their trids use collocation. in other words, almost everybody who is anybody and important in the business actually uses collocation. it's not just the high frequency traders although if it's an unfair advantage i think it should be eliminated. i'm not sure it is, however. about the speed bump there's proposals about high frequency trading for years that one of the ways to stop it is to say you can't trade below, say, 50 milliseconds. if you make everything one second, for example, the minute you turn on the machines at that point if they are trading faster than everybody else then after one second they still have the same advantage. in other words, nothing changes. you want to kill high frequency trading, put a tax on financial transactions like trading. the industry's going to scream like murder and i bet you the volume will drop in half i bet if that happens. if that's a good way to do it, again, even if you do it below one second you'll stil

optionsxpress by charles schwab. >>> let's get over to the cme and check in with rick santelli. look at the board and see a ten-year note yield hovering in the low 260s, keep in mind that if we look at the key day for all maturities, 5s, 10s, 30s, you want to be benchmarking february 3rd. what was that low yield on february 3rd, for 5s it was 144. we're at 151. so only about seven basis points away. in 10s, it was 257. we're at 263. six basis points away. for 30s, we're currently at 357. it was at 353 in the closing yield on the third. we're only four basis points away. should any of those maturities close below those levels even if this is driven in part or half these drops have been geopolitical, that will be technically significant. pay attention. all right. we are anxiously awaiting, remember when i had senator crapo on yesterday about actually seeing the text of this reform bill, the reform the gses. one thing, and i haven't read it, nobody has, the one issue that purportedly is going to be in there is some form of a government guarantee of the securities but the private se
