you have a call in charles schwab -- on charles schwab that is bullish.e is down 16% year to date. why such an opportunity and that? it did get swept away and thrown out with the bathwater during the first republic debacle. what is the health of charles schwab relative to the other names in that sector? brooke: schwab has its earnings come from two sources, revenues and fees they generate on the advisory retail side, and the other from net interest. and it's hard to make money in net interest when you have the inverted yield curve. as we return to a traditional sloping yield curve, there's going to be an earnings pickup for charles schwab. in addition, they just completed the merger with td ameritrade. there will be additional revenue growth, cost synergies, and some opportunities to capitalize on that broader base, so there's a lot going well for schwab and it's cheap at this point and we feel like, over the next few years, there will be great return. manus: a lot of that is locked in. really pushing that through. when you look at house builders and that

jeffery kleintop is chief global investment strategist at charles schwab, and he joins us now. idea that the narrative for 2023 going into 2024 looks very binary, rate cuts versus a period of rate hikes. with more nuanced on that? jeffrey: i think it is. first of all, some major central banks will not be cutting rates, the bank of japan will actually be hiking. that is a major spoiler because japan has a huge positive net investment position. if the yen begins to appreciate and investment returns begin to rise in japan, you could see a lot of money go back to japan that means the selling of assets in the west. japanese investors on the $1 trillion in treasuries, that could be a spoiler. even bigger than that is the idea that markets believe the fed may cut aggressively next year. but even if the market is right, five rate cuts being placed in, that only takes the policy rate back to 4%. if inflation hits the fed's target of 2%, that is still a positive rate of +2 in terms of rates. so i think a lot of what is being priced in right now it might be disappointing next year with th

steph, you bought charles schwab. really the stock has been on a run since november. if we get cuts next year, the stock will take off, it has been up 2%. what made you buy now? >> i bought it back because the stock is still down and the cash sorting issues and concerns are going to abate. m&a is poised to recover. it's accelerating to 2.7% for the current quarter up from 1.7 last quarter. they have the ameritrade cost synergies and i think normalized earnings something like 5.25 that makes the stock 13 times forward timts. best in class. i think a good name on sale. >> a record $6 trillion sitting on the sideline. does that immediately or obviously go into equities? >> it could sit there. as rates come down why would you want to sit with the lower yield? if they come down, it's less attractive. stocks follow profits and i'm right on the profit piece of it, you'll have better returns in the equity market overall and so maybe will see that money coming off the sidelines. >>> coming up, more trades from the committee. kevin simpson, the call we're going to make, hjouse
