the totality goes from oregon all the way to charleston, south carolina. so the path of totality is what we're calling it, it's about a 70 mile wide strip that goes south of portland, oregon, across the plains to the western carolinas to charleston over the ocean. if you want to see the total solar eclipse, you have to drive south of here. you have 30 days to come up with a plan for where you want to be. closest to us, western carolinas. know this. the weather community, the astronomy community have been getting the word out and the hotels in and around totality are nearly booked up already. if you want to make a day trip to see it, here's friendly advice. don't even think about driving down i-95 to charleston on the day of the eclipse much the eclipse will occur, the totality will occur around 2:30, 3:00 in the afternoon. i-95 will be a parking lot trying to get down to that spot. so just know, if you're going to go make a plan to leave saturday and spend saturday night, sunday night where the path is. because getting to the path of totality on the eclipse
