joining us now is former florida governor charlie crist.e program. >> good to be with you, alex. >> governor, so you know, let's look back in terms of what is happening and the response to the oil spill. we have to some degree i think there's a sense we won't really know the impact for several years to come but do know studies have shown that fish are durning up with gashes and ulcers, certainly the wildlife has been impacted in seen and unseen ways and fishermen are not catching what they used to and people involved in the clean-up and spill or those who live near the areas have developed is health problems,ç including respiratory damage, skin irritation and the like. how would you grade the response to the oil spill looking back two years later? >> well, i think the initial response was very good and i really would want to give credit to the obama administration. during those early days, it was a ca tatreau fee of epic proportion. the largest environmental disaster in the history of our country and you know, the president, the vice presi

go through and you want to do that with somebody that went through a relatively easy race once charlie crist got chased out. >> yeah, for hugging obama. talk about a freudian slip. last week, major, you were interviewing marco rubio as we saw about the possibility he would be vice president. and he said something rather revealing perhaps. let's listen. >> three, four, five years from now, if i go a good job as vice president -- i'm sorry. if i do a good job as a senator instead of the vice president, i'll have a chance to do all sorts of things. >> you do what do i, try to get them all screwed up. he said if i spend the next three, four, five years as doing a vice president. >> years as vice president. exactly. i was accused of using jedi mind tricks on marco rubio. for the record, ladies and gentlemen, i possess no jedi mind tricks. >> the secret racing stripes? >> i don't think so. and i don't think romney will pick rubio. as far as anyone can possibly be on the limb, i said he'll pick rob portman. >> rob portman is the senator from ohio. a state republicans historically must win to win th

republican primary, bringing marco rubio three victory over the previous establishment candidate, charlie crist. they weighed in on the massachusetts elections, they won a victory that shocked the democratic party in my one-party state. by november 2010, the tea party was riding the wave of massive gop victories at the national level in the states, and helping to elect much more conservative republicans. we all know that they pushed many of those republicans to refuse compromise with the obama administration throughout 2011, and the push for big cuts and change of direction in national policy. we see tea party voters waiting in during the course of the 2012 primaries. in a way that i will discuss at the end of my remarks. having reminded you of that huge phenomenon that changed the focus of national debates and created a lot of new energy on a formerly detective right, let me mention how we got involved. vanessa was doing a social paper and noted that it was on the right that a lot of protest energy was happening around health care reform. i was finishing up a book on the first two years of the

. >> that was the problem, though, for charlie crist in florida, he never convinced voters he was genuineency. the party changed in a couple of years. crist was on the outs with republicans for literally embracing the president and the stimulus plan in 2009. he left the party after polls showed him trailing marco rubio in the nomination. arlen specter facing the prospect of losing his senate seat and the republican domination. he switched party in 2009 two weeks after pat toomey joined the race. he said the party he had been with for 44 years was no longer the same. >> i found myself increasingly at odds with the republican philosophy and more aligned with the philosophy of the democratic party. therefore, i have decided to be a candidate for re-election in 2010 in the democratic primary. >> well that didn't work. after failing to win over republicans, specter didn't convince democrats either and he lost the democratic primary to joe sestak the following year. lincoln chaffee after losing the election bid in 2006, he jumped ship and became an independent and he was elected the first indep

i have appealed this because of the fact that under charlie crist who was governor prior to rick scott, all felons were permitted to vote. i was not a felon, but in a minor domestic case which was a misdemeanor involving my mother, i was told with an attorney here in florida to have the case dismissed, i was told that we had to retain because i was not allowed to represent myself in sarasota county. i went through the procedure. filed on january 20. i sent in all of my paperwork. it was sent back to me on march 9 when i was out of town. host: we are going to have to draw this to a close. caller: i am appealing my right to vote in the state of florida. what i want to end with very quickly is the fact that people should be aware of the fact that there are trivialities in these laws. jury duty is to driver's license. in the state of florida, this particular incident is so trivial that i think this needs to be changed in florida. host: any comments for him? yout: only that i'm glad are trying to get your voting right back. we are an organization that once as much participation as possible.
