one was charlotte williams' grandson. she said he was with devon right after the gunfire. >> he died in his arms. >> reporter: today his family and friends said good-bye to the oakland tech honor roll student and football player. >> it's sad that a 14-year-old had to get his life cut so short and he just had a future. >> reporter: charlotte hopes the funeral brings some closure to his family. it's possible because family, friends and some complete strangers pitched in. a go fund me page raised $22,000 to help the family pay for funeral expenses. >> the community is just really stepping in. i really do appreciate everyone who is stepping in. >> reporter: and the family says that that just shows how much devon impacted the community. now the money left overfrom the $22,000, the family is going to actually set that aside once they're done paying for the funeral and the money left over is going to be put into a foundation in his name and support other families of gun violence. we're live in oakland, i'm ryan takeo, kpix 5. >>
