this is breaking news out of charlottesville where federal and local authorities are investigating a severed gas line at the home of u.s. congressman tom perriello's brother after tea party activists had posted the address online. they believed it was the congressman's home. turned out to be his brother's home. joining is now is lee cat lynn the community relations director for this county in virginia. what can you tell me about this incident that you know? >> you and brian talked about the basics of the incident. basically i can say the fbi did contact our fire marshal's office last night four our assistance in investigating a suspicious incident. i can't really characterize what the incident was but i can say there was an element of the incident that required expertise of a fire investigator. and since the residence is in the county's jurisdiction we were called to help with that. >> i have a report that says the incident is viewed as an attempted threat to a member of congress. this was a source saying this. what can you add to that? >> well, that's not really a determination that

there have been a few more incidents, republicans in a county republican office near the charlottesvillevirginia, area say bricks were thrown through their office. but this does seem to be dying down. the powder, as you say in congressman wiener's office turns out to be negative. many tea party groups around the country have been issuing statements saying they condemn the violence. no one should jump to conclusions it's their members trying to do this. and the republicans yesterday put out a statement there, the republican leader in the house john boehner condemning the violence as well. >> we ought to be respectful of each other. i have said countless times there's a way to disagree without being disagreeable. >> reporter: this has been a bit of a partisan issue because the republicans say they think it's wrong to try to turn this into a partisan issue. they say they have also been the victims of some of these attacks. not only the telephone message to the congresswoman but a shot fired into the air that hit a window at the office of representative eric cantor of virginia. although, the
