in charlottesville virginia police have never used drones but the city council has nonetheless restricted their use just in case these this technology is already being heavily marketed to local law enforcement agencies and other groups and there's even one county in virginia that already purchased two drones for surveillance and so we know it's coming and we just we want to get out ahead of it at least twenty seven states are now considering legislation to outline how drones can be used by law enforcement or to ground them all together but there are those who believe the lawmakers effort not the rise of the spy planes so they're taking the matter into their own hands a company in oregon says it has developed and will soon start selling to acknowledge that could shield people from surveillance drones over the phone the developer did not offer any details but said this for not disabling their cameras or anything like that we are not doing anything physically to the drones we are simply not allowing their cameras to look at areas. also in the battle for privacy a designer in new york came up

you do have these pop-ups, and in charlottesville, for example, just declared themselves a drone-freend yet at the same time you've got applications from 50 different communities, 37 states around the country who want to be among the test sites. so how do those things comport? clearly, there is tremendous interest. and maybe we should talk for a minute about how you all see, i guess there are two aspects of this. i'd love to hear how we see the market developing. in other words, there are a lot of public interest applications that are really important. and at the same time, when and does the faa begin to assert privacy? in other words, this is the national air space, and there are issues -- unfortunately hurricanes and wildfires -- don't respect state and local borders in terms of regulatory authority. so how does that work? frank, you are looking at the market. what do you think the applications are going to be? >> well, i guess just to briefly address privacy, i think it is an issue for the smaller little uavs. i mean, i wouldn't want a one-pound uav hovering outside my window looki

following texas' footsteps as you can see here anti drug laws have already passed in tallahassee and charlottesville meanwhile california massachusetts illinois texas washington kentucky and oregon are all considering similar legislation are we starting to see a trend here well known well definitely and i just want to add that under the proposed texas police would still be able to use drones for search warrants and d.h. as would still be able to use drones along the border but as we saw recently with rand paul and his drone filibuster and these laws that were seen in across the u.s. there's definitely a lot more. to the privacy issues and the safety issues of drones bring along with them and we do know that actually there's been a lot of times that texas was in the news the most recent one was that last year a group of researchers from the university of texas at austin actually proved that to the d.n.a. test that they could take control of an unmanned aerial vehicle and that just raises so many more questions about the way the program. and you know i can understand i'm sure others can understand why
