chase cain, "today in the bay." >> thank you, chase. now to the ongoing negotiations between b.a.r.t. and its unions. of course the good news this morning is b.a.r.t. trains are running. now the question is what happens tomorrow? right now both sides are at the bargain ing table trying to get a deal done. they have been there all night long. christie smith is live outside the caltrans building in oakland where negotiations are being held. you have more on this developing story for us. >> reporter: good morning to you. maybe no news is good news. we're thinking this might be coming to an end at some point because consider this, these negotiations actually started at 10:00 yesterday morning. now and then we'll see union reps come out. they look tired. perhaps the only one more tired of this are the b.a.r.t. riders who have been held in limbo while these talk goes back and forth. b.a.r.t.'s lead negotiator walked out around 1:45 this morning but didn't answer reporter questions. as usual the federal mediator came out to say trains would be

smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much for the reports all morning long. >>> we'll go to chase cain how are the lines at this point? >> reporter: the line has shortened a bit because they have been loading people onto the buses, but we may be looking at what are the last three buses here at the walnut creek station. so there are still tickets available right now, but keep that in mind getting ready to come to the walnut creek station. you should probably do that quickly because all of the buses are first come, first serve. now, it was just a little while ago when the lines were much longer here and people started lining up at 4:00 a.m. they were having to wake up an extra hour and a half or two hours to get here early to make sure they got on a bus and could get to work. one guy put it best, bottom line, it is my responsibility to get to work and i have to do that however i can. if you're looking for one of these buses to catch into the city, there are nine different east bay station that is will shuttle you into san francisco. the stations are el cerrito, concord, walnut creek, laf

we get to chase cain live at the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station where we understand that b.a.r.t.'s turning people away. good morning, chase. >> reporter: yes, good morning. a confusing morning so far because we were told last night the trains would be running on a limited basis. so after 4:00 a.m. they opened these gates here. about 10 or 15 minutes later they closed the gates, told everyone to leave because they were not able to staff the positions that they needed to get the train service under way so the announcement playing in the b.a.r.t. station is that b.a.r.t. is closed until further notice. so there is in fact no train service this morning so seems we're going to revert back to what's going on, the charter buses, the buses that everyone has become familiar with now, lining up for the people that were here in this walnut creek station have walked across the parking lot to try to catch those charter buses. the frustration is evident. people telling me they are not sure if they can get to work on time because they were planning on getting on the train, not the bus which can

case cain for "today in the bay." >>> thank you, chase. now we take you live to the oakland ferry terminal where the first ferry is going to leave for san francisco. look at the line here growing, a few minutes ago there was nothing there. four extra ferries and more departure times have beened aed. the first ferry leaves at 5:30. bob redell is there talking to passengers right now and will have a live report in less than ten minutes. >>> as we briefly mentioned earlier, caltrans has extended the carpool hours. we can tell you lanes will be running nonstop from 5:00 a.m. this morning, so they have already started, to 7:00 p.m. this evening. we can also tell you portions of interstate 80, 880 and 680 and the toll bridges are expected to keep extended hours, but it is not including the golden gate bridge. >>> then over on the peninsula, sam transand call train will help people try to get to work. san tran buses will stop in san mateo county to talk riders to san francisco. as for caltrain, they will operate on regular service, but all trains

the entire bay area off to a pretty typical start, but chase cain already saw people lining up at the bus stations in walnut creek, so people are prepared to make alternate plans. being a fridayers that's unexpectedly heavy traffic for the east shore freeway with the arrow marked here. also a concern is highway 24 coming off the walnut creek interchange all the way through here that has two westbound areas heading to the congestion. 680 also seeing a heavier flow of traffic, so we'll see things move from concord down to danville. this is one of the areas with the hov lanes in service all day. what that means is if you have two or more, you get a bit of a break. if you have one sole driver, you cannot get in the hov lanes. we are looking at north 880 past the coliseum. a light flow of traffic right now. nothing unusual from the shot there. a smooth flow from 580. one crash clearing from grant road. no other problems throughout the south bay. very clear. probably unaffected, but we are looking to the north bay as well as bob redell is out there. we are talking about hov lanes and differ

let's start out in san francisco with chase cain. you can smell the smoke? >> reporter: well, i personally can't smell the smoke but i've been battling a cold so i may not be the best gauge of that but people here in san francisco have been smelling that smoke. the wind is blowing right out of the north where that wild fire has been coming from. you can even see from the pier 39 flags the wind is blowing out of almost the due north. speaking of napa county check out dramatic video from overnight where two people were driving in a truck just off of highway 29 when a tree comes crashing down on the truck. fortunately, both of the people inside are okay, only minor injuries, neither had to go to the hospital so thankful for that. also in napa county as we're talking about there is that wildfire burning along the eastern shore of lake berryessa. no homes are threatened but there are road closures in the area. no evacuations yet and seems crews have been able to do a pretty good job of getting the fire contained, beating it back from more than 500 acres but they

"today in the bay's" chase cain is live at the valley christian high school where those sisters attend. good morning, chase. >> reporter: well, good morning, jon. a pretty sad, a pretty scary morning for family and friends of these two teenage girls. they were reported missing to san jose police sunday night. it has now been about 2 1/2 days. no one has confirmed that they have seen these girls anywhere. of course, there is a lot of worry here in san jose. i want you to take a look at a picture. 16-year-old madeline, 13-year-old emily dorsich. they were last seen sunday night at delmar high school. since then, no word from them. their father says that maybe they were spotted yesterday morning at a caltrans station. he has taken to facebook and put together a page with lolts of pictures of the two, spread throughout the bay area, sacramento and fresno. if anyone has seen these girls, if you know where they are, every hour that goes by is incredibly difficult for their father. >> we need to get the word out to as many people as we can. my children have been missing. this is hard. this is

chase cain is live in san francisco with the charges that worker is now facing. good morning, chase. >>> good morning, john. some rather serious felony charges in part because the prosecutors say that parts worker left the scene after he apparently ran over a woman who was sun bathing here on the grass in holly park about six weeks ago. that young mother was lying there where you see this memorial with her 11-month-old and her dog. the parks worker that is being charged with her death turned himself in late yesterday. 58-year-old tom bernoski had, woulded for parks and recs here in san francisco for some time. the district attorney charged him with felonyjv hit and run vehicular manslaughter, because it was in early september when he was driving a green parks and rec truck. apparently drove that truck off the path, hit this young mother and killed her while she lay there sun bathing on the grass. the 35-year-old's family were devastated. her child and the dog were not hit. we are told parks and rec rums require anyone driving a vehicle off of the pag have a spott

chase cain joins us from sf general with more on what both sides are saying tonight. >> reporter: a hospital spokesperson confirms that they did ask the sheriff to search for spalding after her disappearance but they would not tell us how many times they asked. this all stems from a report by the san francisco kroen kl that sf general had to ask the sheriff to search for spalding four times after she went missing on september 21st. spalding was found dead in a stairwell 17 days after she first went missing but her family has gotten few answers about what happened to her. sf general told us it is uncommon to request multiple searches for a person but a sheriff's smokes person would not answer any questions for us. so imagine the family shock and horror to find out that the sheriff can't even say that people in his charge did a search and not one, not two, but four searches. at this time the family and friends of lynne spalding are demanding that the leadership of the sheriff's department step in front of a camera and answer some basic questions. >> reporter: questions like were four searches
