in light of nike's new campaign senator bo watson of chattanooga publicly stated he would be asking for a review of which state universities have nike contracts. turns out several state schools have big contracts with nike, including university of tennessee in memphis, etsu, do -- university of tennessee, university of memphis, etsu, do you believe the state should step in on this issue and perhaps mandate ending contracts with companies like nike when they take a political stand? mr. dean. mr. dean: no, i do not. i don't think the state legislature or governor should mettle to that degree in university policy. my sense is efforts that have been done recently especially with something that's important to me which is diversity in treating people with respect and dignity and being inclusive where the legislature becomes concerned about diversity efforts at the university, that is not helpful. i think when we hire really good people to run those universities and we pay them well, we should let them do their jobs and not
