i'm at chavez school. we are funded by state. also we have funds that we are using to staff our schools. but i really want to speak up for those people that are not in the zone. and i have been at this school district for eight years -- well as a parafor three years and teacher for eight years. seniority is seniority no matter what. i have never received a layoff thank goodness. i'm always in the protected ranks and happen to be at a zone school where my colleagues are going to be protected but what happens to the people that are not in the zone school? they are working just as hard with the same demographics as we are. but the last thing i want to say, what happens when the money runs out? what is the plan? what is the plan? school district students and families. for me, i tell you this is a special recognition because one of the highlights of my life is that i actually got to march with cesar chavezthat meant a lot to me when i was in college. it's a dream come true to have this happen in our school district. tom? >> thank you, superintendent. and commissioners. we want to recognize the following individuals for their work not only behind the scenes, but in front of the scenes, wherever the work needed doing. these individuals helped our district schools and department's work on behalf of our district goals of equity and accountability and creating the conditions for success for our students. superintendent, would you like me to read them one at a time or would you like me to go through the list? read them all at once? the first individual is david jensen. put 10 schools on their application, did not get any of them, got assigned to cesar chavez. ent t lives in alamo, is caucasian, would have added to the racial diversity of that school, got assigned to another school. student a who lives in alamo put 10 schools on their application, got assigned to redding. student j who lives in a ctip neighborhood got none of the schools on their list, ended up going to the assignment office and complained and then got assigned to argon on the spot. this is just a sampling of students in my son's preschool. i have to imagine that in other children -- other friends i've spoken with, things are not right. i know there are factors and the school board leans on the computer system but something is not right with the process this year. president yee: thank you. i'm going to call names from daniel webster. again, there's more people -- there's a lot of people. and you have 15 minutes total as a group. use it any way you like. stacy -- so if somebody comes up and starts talking for five minutes, you only have 10 minutes for the rest of the group. >

it's one of three oakland schools founded by a man named ben chavez. today b.a.r.t.led out a four-car train outfitted with brand-new, easier to clean seats. the new vinyl seats will gradually be placed onto 100 existing trains. trains that are updated with the seats will feature a decal on the side saying the seats onboard are new. >> this is the beginning of our fleet of the future look and we are attempting to bring these seats in now to let the cu customers know that we care about what they think about and we are trying to move into the future to new cars that reflect their needs as well. >> before b.a.r.t. updates more of the trains riders will get to weigh in on whether they like the new seats. the move comes after 81% of people surveyed by b.a.r.t. ranked the cleanliness of the seats as being very important. >> in texas now at least three powerful tornadoes ripped through the dallas-ft. worth area leaving behind a path of destruction. thankfully no reports of any serious injuries. keep a close eye in the middle of your screen. this is live tv coverage captured
