natasha chen is on the scene now in miami-dade county, and natasha, what are you learning this afternoon? >> reporter: yeah, jessica, just now, the family of someone who died on scene has just arrived. they claim that one of the people who died overnight is their son and so it's a very emotional scene right now, and it's unfortunately one that is all too familiar as you just said with the amount of violence we've seen over the past months and years. this particular person said that his son was in his 20s. he is very emotional right now, trying to speak to the cameras and to the law enforcement investigators here saying that, you know, they killed the wrong person. just very heartbreaking to listen to. the victim's mother seems to be very upset as well. telling people what we know happened here overnight, between midnight and 1:00 a.m. miami-dade police tell us a white nissan pathfind erroled up in the strip mall, right outside an establishment that is advertised as a billiards club, a private lounge. there was apparently a private show going on. three people stepped out of that car with

natasha chen is on the scene now in miami-dade county. natasha, what can you tell us? >> reporter: we just saw k-9s arrive on the scene, investigators have been working all morning since this happened. police say the shooting happened between midnight and 1:00 a.m. outside of a lounge business that was hosting a private event, a private show. and that some of the guests, the customers, were standing outside when this happened. police say that a white nissan path finder pulled up, three people got out with assault rifles and handguns and started shooting indiscriminately into the crowd. two people have died. as you mentioned, more than 20 others injured, some of them taken to hospitals by ambulance, some of them taken to the hospitals privately in their own cars. so a lot of chaos here and what we're seeing is that from the aerial images shot by one of our affiliates, at least we're seeing two people, what seemed to be two people on the ground covered there. it's a very fluid scene, very emotional for the people involved. one woman came by the scene and said that her so

t natasa chen has more on the panic at the pump and why it could linger for awhile. >> reporter: u.s. gas demand reached a pandemic-era high after seeing heavy increases since late july. that's on the app gas buddy. it is from drivers self-reporting outages and prices around the country. even as colonial pipeline said on saturday the systems were under normal operation, it could take several days or weeks, in some places, before seeing a steady supply of fuel at the pump. as of sunday afternoon, 81% of gas stations of washington, d.c., were without fuel. there was small improvements in north carolina where that number now sits at 57%. under half of the gas stations itself, carolina and georgia, don't have fuel. and authorities are telling people to continue not to horde fuel because it could prolong the issue. here in charleston, south carolina, we're not necessarily seeing long lines at the pump as most of the gas stations in the city seem to have fuel. and those that didn't, also got new supply in the last few days. there have been some several states in the southeast with states of

cnn's natasha chen is at a gas station in charleston, south carolina.e situation there in charleston? >> well, fred, it does actually seem like a lot of visitors are in town, so i don't know how much they've been stopped by this. but what we're seeing is this particular gas station behind us has not seen any new fuel supply in the last couple of days and they're not clear on when they might get more supply. that being said, other gas stations around the same area have seen new supply in the last couple of days so it really is hit or miss, and, according to the app gas buddy, which is crowd sourced by drivers self-reporting outages and prices across the country, it does seem that at this time south carolina is seeing 46% of gas stations without fuel. georgia's experiencing around the same. north carolina, as you mentioned, 57% of gas stations without fuel. that state is actually seeing probably some of the best improvement over the last couple of days, but still the worst off washington, d.c. currently as of this afternoon, 81% of the stations there with

cnn's natasha chen is there. natasha, tell us, what are you seeing?rter: in the last 15 minutes or so the crowd just wrapped up and dispersed but they had been marching all around elizabeth city for a couple hours, starting at the waterfront and stopping at andrew brown's home where he was killed on april 21st, held vigil there for a moment next to a wall where a new mural had been pointed, something different about this protests because we have seen continuous protests every single day since his death, and something different today is that his family was marching at the front of the line. very poignant, a lot of supporters joining them and calling for transparency for the body camera footage to all be released, not just the 20 seconds of one camera's angle that was not apparently shown to just one family member, according to the brown family. a judge did say that the family can view more of the footage in the coming days, but that same judge denied the request for more footage to be released to the public. here is one cousin and an aunt of andrew bro

natasha chen is at a shell gas station in charleston, south carolina., the pipeline is back in action, but the question is, how fast can the fuel be delivered to gas pumps like where you are? >> reporter: that's right, fred. the colonial pipeline did say today they are at normal operations, but think of the facts that the fuel flows through this pipeline at about 5 miles per hour, and, of course, we have issues on the road, lots of states have lifted weight restrictions for these trucks to bring this fuel to the pump. it could take some time for people to see some normalcy here. the pumps behind us have yellow bags on top of them. this is the case for about half of the gas stations across south carolina right now, though in the city of charleston where we are, it's a little bit better than that. let's show you a map of what gas buddy saying is the situation right now. keep in mind these are crowd-sourced numbers, so drivers are self-reporting what they're seeing at these gas stations. you mentioned 81% of gas stations out in dc, fewer than half out in s

natasha chen joins us now from elizabeth city, north carolina. what are you seeing there, natasha?and have stopped outside the public safety building, which has been the center of so much action in the past week or so since andrew brown's killing. this is where the family has held press conferences. the building behind us is where the family went in to view body camera footage, which turned out to be 20 seconds long. i'm going to step aside so you can see there are representatives of the family speaking at the moment. we've heard from andrew brown's son earlier today, as well as his son's mother. and a lot of the people here are really, as you can imagine, very disturbed by the fact that there has been little transparency as far as video goes in this case. they are chanting "release the video" "the real video" because what the family saw was re redacted. some of the faces in the video were blurred. and we want to share a little bit of what attorney davis told us earlier on the air. >> we are fighting for accountability and transparency. what the district attorney does in a case, wh

natasha chen joining us live in atlanta. natasha, tell us more about the reopening plans around the country. >> yeah, fred, we've seen how those reopening plans vary greatly from state to state but the attitudes vary too from urban areas versus rural areas. here in atlanta in georgia, any remaining social distancing requirements were lifted already in early may, may 1. but new york -- new york city just lifted its requirements for vaccinated people. they don't have to wear masks nor have to social distance. as of last wednesday, california announced june 15th they're lifting restrictions as well. so things are definitely starting to change and open up across the country, even for the states that were more restrictive. of course, that's following the recent cdc guidelines allowing fully vaccinated people to not have to wear masks in public. and that's what we are seeing here on the beltline, that really goes through much of the city of atlanta. most people are not wearing masks here. people are enjoying the weather n and peop

natasha chen is at a circle k station in charleston, south carolina.ates nearly half the service stations in that state are out of gas. what are you experiencing and seeing? >> fred, it's hit-or-miss here, 50/50 across the street. here in charleston, a little better than that. the gas buddy app, which is crowd sourced, are telling us maybe two-thirds of the gas stations in charleston do have fuel for people. not the one behind us though. there's definitely still yellow bags on that pump and people are pulling in here are just coming to to get snacks or water. so it is still a slow improvement, though it is an improvement that we are seeing across the region. d.c. in particular has been struggling with this. they've improved their situation. this morning the latest gas buddy numbers showed an 81% of gas stations there without fuel. that is slightly better than it was last night. also here in our area, we are seeing that improvement happening slowly because some of the gas stations nearby, just a few blocks away, did not have gas last night. this morning

new jersey, a shooting at a house party left two people dead and another 12 wounded, cnn's natasha chen, how does this gun violence we're seeing compare to what has been seen in recent years? >> yeah, fred, compared to the same time period in previous years, that is from january to this point in may, it is definitely an uptick. we are outpacing the rate of gun deaths in the same amount of time in 2019 and 2020. to highlight a few of the incidents you were mentioning there, as you mentioned in bridgeton, new jersey there was a shooting where two people died, a man and a woman, 12 people injured at what seems to be a party, i think we have some aerials to show you of that scene, and how chaotic that was, our polo sandoval is out there finding more details on that situation. and we also just showed you a map there of a number of the shootings that we have learned about from coast-to-coast that includes jersey city, it includes minneapolis, and the bronx, a subway shooting there. and, you know, north charleston as well, we're seeing a lot of these shooting incidents also involve the deaths
