let's talk about karen chen. what does she have going? >> karen is one of the most artistic skaters in the entire world. her biggest strengths are definitely how gorgeous she moves across the ice. she's very emotional. so you really feel something when you watch her skate. and this is her second olympics, so she's going to be taking experiences that she learned at her first one in south korea in 2018 and applying to these next olympics. so she is going in as a huge inspiration to a lot of her teammates. >> let's go over to the men's side momentarily. talk to me about vincent joe of palo alto. >> yes. so vincent is another outstanding skater. he is so technically strong. he has amazing quads that he showed very well here at the u.s. championships. the short program in particular, with world champion quality. he has grown so much artistically and it is so impressive. he is such a hard worker, and for him to also be going back to his second olympics now, he is hungry and he wants it. >> all right. united states, we're all going to be rooting

norah. >> o'donnell: nancy chen on the scene, thank you. in a stunning twist today, three suburban philadelphia police officers were charged in the shooting death last summer of an eight-year-old girl. they fired into a crowd trying to break up a gun fight. we get more now from cbs' meg oliver. >> reporter: nearly five months after the shooting of eight- year-old fanta bility, three sharon hill police officers were charged in connection with her death. today, following a grand jury investigation, officers devon smith, sean dolan, and brian devaney were each charged with voluntary and involuntary manslaughter and 10 counts of reckless endangerment. when did you determine that the fatal bullet was from an officer's gun? >> we initially determined back in i think the september time frame. we're now sure beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer shoot not only killed fanta bility, but they also wounded three other young people. >> reporter: the young girl was killed last summer after two teens exchanged gunfire at the end of a football game. >

let's go now to natasha chen at the santa mon ra pier. what are you seeing, natasha? >> reporter: jessica, the l.a. county beaches are not closed at this moment even though you did mention the city of laguna beach has shut down their beaches. i just spoke with captain a.j. lester of the los angeles county fire department lifeguard division and he told me really the focus right now is to advise the people behind us who might be walking along the beach or who might be in the water that this is something they should watch out for. they are also really focusing on the harbors where people dock their boats because the low-lying harbors is where you're going to see some of that tidal swing. right now they have an incident commander in ra don dough beach where they have seen -- they measured just now, he called me about ten minutes ago saying that it was a 1.5 foot tidal swing so far. so not too bad, but they had advised people to secure their boats and because they did not know how serious this would be when this advisory started this morning, they had also advised people t

let's go to natasha chen live at the santa monica pier. describe to us what you're seeing. >> reporter: jessica, i spoke to the l.a. county fire department lifeguard division and they describe today as a good dry run for a potentially much larger tsunami impact that could come in the future. so what they mean by that is they were patrolling up and down the coastline today, telling people to be aware of this. and also warning those people with boats in the harbors and marinas, because when allison is talking about that 1 foot tidal surge, when you've already got a current of 4 to 6 foot waves here, 1 foot difference may not be easily seen at the beach here, but you can see that water rushing in and out much more rapidly when you're looking at a marina or a harbor. so telling those boat owners to check those dock lines for those vessels, make sure they don't snap or break if there's a rush of water coming in. we did talk to someone as well who was here very early in the morning and here's how he described how this saturday morning's water ri

let's go to cnn and natasha chen in los angeles county.nformation coming out of l.a. right now. the school district out there is the second largest in the country. how are things going there compared to some of these other problems we're seeing around the country? >> reporter: well, jim, the school district, l.a. unified, is going through a serious process here to make sure they can stop the spread. behind me is a long line of people trying to get tested before tuesday. this is a required baseline test, and we just spoke with the president of the l.a. unified board, kelly gomez, who told me that because of this testing that's been required of students and employees this past week, they caught 50,000 positive cases. she says that's 50,000 students and employees who are now prevented from coming into the building tuesday. that along with their entire weekly testing for students and employees is really working for them, along with required vaccination for all their employees, along with the fact that students 12 and up, about 90% of them, are
