cherri gregg from sister station "kyw news radio 1060" is live there now with the details. good morning. >> good morning, todd, i'm here at the starting line where less than a minute ago you heard the whistle blow and of course, hundreds of cyclists from around the world just began the international race. now, the men's race started and they'll be going a total of nine laps for 110.7 miles. i spoke with riders today of course, they said the hardest part is the iconic manayunk wall. they'll have to do it nine times. but, of corpse they're pack up with food, water and ready, and as for the easiest part, it is the fans, spectators thousands are expected to line the route which begins of course here in manayunk goes down around kelly drive and along the schuylkill river to strawberry mansion, and lemon hill, before returning here to manayunk, of course, to close the circuit. featured race of the day start at 12:30 women's race, of course that's six laps or 73.8 miles, and for it is first time ever that the women's race of course, is a featured race of the day. it is first time

cherri gregg from sister station "kyw news radio" live at memorial hall with more on.ll what's going on? >> good morning, nicole. yes, the triathelon is now a duathlon. having the swim portion of the race being canceled, as the city of philadelphia deems the schuylkill river unsafe for swimming today. because of rain, of course, you know the schuylkill has current, and under current that can be dangerous. but, the racers that i spoke to today still really excited. they're probably still going to get wet. the professional portion of the race began little while ago, and in just a few moments, the amateur portion of the race is going to begin. and of course they're going to get wet as i said, big concern of course is on the bike portion of the race, which is a 24 opinion the 8-mile bike ride followed by 6.2-mile bike run. and the bike issue it could get very slippery on the track, and there are could possibly be debris that people have to avoid. i'm here with spectators who are here, supporting their daughter and sister, in the race so, dolores and dawn benjamin, who are

cherri gregg liver at memorial hall with more on, that cast going on? >> yes, as you can see spectators are gathered along here, at the starting line, finish line of the try rock triathelon series at black road, martin luther king drive. the amateur try rock series is well underway, 1700 athletes participating today, 1600 yesterday at the event and the pros are sort of doing their laps as we speak. weather you can see, you can see the folks sort of riding the race despite the weather. triathelon converted into duathlon after the city declared the schuylkill river unsafe for swimming. now most of the athletes i spoke with slightly disappointed from the change, but understood the safety concerns five years ago prospect park resident died during the swimming portion of the race, so the safety concerns are real, so instead of swim, bike and run the athletes will do a 24.8-mile bike ride follow by 6.2-mile run, but back out here live, i have to say, that the bick chunk of this race is to race money for great cause. i'm here with peter, johnson & johnson, you
