"action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside the polling place in cherry hill with the veryng. >> reporter: good morning, tam. the polls opened at 6:00 a.m. and we've been speaking to voters. they say it's important to get out bright and early to cast your ballot and you can see here in cherry hill they have the signs up and they are directing voters inside. a lot of different local races across new jersey but across the state everyone is talking about the governor's race. democrat phil murphy and republican lieutenant governor kim guadagno are the two major party candidates as chris christie reaches the end of his second term. 60-year-old murphy a former goldman sachs executive and middletown monmouth county resident has been campaigning on giving the state's economy a boost. while former president obama tapped him to serve as the u.s. ambassador to germany in 2009, he has never held elected office. murphy has been leading in the polls. 58-year-old guadagno of monmouth beach in monmouth county has been speaking to voters about her goals to cut property taxes in new jersey.
