let's go live to cheryl hurd with the latest. cheryl? >> reporter: police are waiting out the situation. a few moments ago i saw s.w.a.t. team members circling the member. a suspect wanted in a stabbing and shooting remains holed up in a hotel, a section of the 580 is closed and could affect your morning commute. the bridge is open tonight after police closed it today when the suspect allegedly fired a shot across the bridge. s.w.a.t. officering continue to surround the hotel where the armed suspect claims he has his girlfriend held up there. we have surveillance pictures of the man, taken sunday at the united market on 3rd street. he was involved in a shoplifting incident that turned into a stabbing. when officers tracked the suspect's location to the hotel at 8:30 this morning, he barricaded himself inside. >> we came back after dropping some supplies off and they said you can no longer go back into your room. the hotel is great people but this is insane. >> reporter: so the morning commute is going to be very important to a lot of you

i'm cheryl jennings. we're talking about the life saving gift of organ donation. for many patients who are waiting for a transplant it is there only hope. according to the californiaant s of july of this year, there was more than 72,000 active patients on the national waiting list. organs are the kidney, liver and heart is the highest mand. they have to hang on until a donor can be found. so it's constant and urgent. joining me is a man that knows all about that, anthony robinson. a captain of the investigative services bureau and heart transplant recipient. i want to thank you for being here today. most people would never know. >> that is what it's supposed to be. >> tell me about when you decided or what was it like you to? >> i was told in 1993 i needed a heart transplant but it years maybe a few years ago when i really felt i was starting to slow down, couldn't walk upstairs and i was hospitalized for four or five months. i did receive a heart transplant. >> did you have to wait for a long time? >> wa

we bring in cheryl hurd. cheryl, the police chief says this crime should serve as a catalyst for change. is he onto something or hyperbole here? >> reporter: this could be a rallying cry for change. so many people were walking by, saying they want change. they're black, white, asian, hispanic. i talked to the ex-girlfriend of the suspect, and she has a different take on things. >> we're looking from the outside like he's guilty, but he's not. i believe that in my heart. >> reporter: courtney is lawrence denard's ex-girlfriend and she believes he's not capable of murder. >> he's a good guy. he was a good guy with my daughter, his daughter. he's a good guy. >> reporter: that's not the picture painted from denard from these documents obtained by nbc bay area. he pleaded no contest to being a felon in possession of a firearm in september 2004. he was also convicted of grand theft and he recently spent 16 months behind bars. >> mr. denard has prior convi convictions for handguns, ex-felon. >> reporter: police say

cheryl davis. momagic. last but not least, we have jenay. >> we have tyre and then we have cheryl. john. i have a question for you. i hear there's a summer school safety plan that started in may 2007. >> they were 4 partners that collaborates on looking at summer school sites. the 4 were the mtap with muni, the youth services with san francisco police department and the security guards through the san francisco unified school district and d.c. yf. we rolled out responsibilities and it was within the scope of work we were doing and to form what that looked like. they are going to be the primary lead but have support of m tap to deal with interventions outside the perimeter the school. and the police department was a supportive roll if it escalated. previous to this, there had been incidences almost riots at different schools. lots of arrests and last year there were minimal, if none. >> this was last summer? this was the first time you had this in place. >> what did you do? were the teams on the campuses when school let out? >> yes. there were level assignments where there were reps

cheryl hurd joins us and tonight, cheryl, we're just getting these details. why so many years lateer? >> reporter: the information is coming out now because of the recently released fbi documents that will soon be made public in a book. we talked to the book's author about the killing revelations about the city of san francisco. >> i think he was obsessed with power and how far he could push people. and i think for him, the ultimate loyalty test was to have someone die for him. >> reporter: julia sheers says extremist jim jones was working on plot to kill. several hundred of his followers were his target, and san francisco was where it was all supposed to happen. >> he talked with his inner circle about loading people onto buses and driving them off the golden gate bridge. and he sent a lover of his to flight school to learn how to pilot a plane. >> reporter: she gathered all this information after combing through 50,000 pages of documents into what happened in jones town. detailed of the planned hijacking are written in her book. it was 1978, close to 1,000

but cheryl is known for her pigs. she takes great pride in how she has run her farm over the past 20 years. >> the animals deserve to have-- to be able to be pigs, to play in the mud, to enjoy their life and what you feed them and how they live affects the taste and the flavor of the meat. we work very hard to make sure that the food they eat is the food we would eat. it looks good, it smells good, it tastes good, and it makes for a very good meal. >> free range farming takes a lot of time and energy. but cheryl says raising the animals is not the hard part. finding someone to slaughter them, with a usda inspector present, is the real challenge. for years, cheryl's pigs were taken to kapowsin in rural pierce county for slaughter, some 45 minutes from her farm, but her cows had a much longer trip. they were packed into a trailer for a three-hour trip to a slaughter facility in sandy oregon. >> sustainable agriculture as far as i'm concerned is only sustainable if the farmer can continue to do it. it can't be one of tho

cheryl hurd joins us live at american canyon with the detals. cheryl?> reporter: in my hands is a copy of the criminal complaint, filled with detail. what's interesting is how authorities say they caught the woman accused of embezzlement. the fbi started investigating former giants payroll accountant robin o'connor last month when she applied for a loan to buy a home in san diego. a human resource manager got a call from a bank representative who was doing a follow up on two large deposits. in the loan application was a letter, stating that o'connor was given two huge bonuses amounting to over $300,000 for her role in helping the giants win the 2010 world series. bank of america wanted confirmation. the document states that the phone number at the end of the letter did not direct the bank to giant human resources. instead, the initial rang o'connor's desk. that's when the ball started rolling. o'connor is accused of embezzling $1.5 million. some of that money belonging to several unnamed giants' players. the complaint also alleges that o'connor admitted

here to weigh in, we have our fox business anchor cheryl casoni. earlier, the futures were up close to 200. now they're down close to 100. >> there's a lot of volatility in the markets, obviously but what's so different from 2008 to now is it is a global story and what we're seeing right now especially in the last few moments is pressure in europe. there's a lot of concern now about the u.k. and about the french and german banks and that's where the stocks are falling in europe right now. that's why you're seeing pressure on the dow futures at this moment. we were higher, as you mentioned. this concern because italy is the third largest economy in europe, they might not be able to be bailed out by the u.k., by the germans, by the french. there's not enough money there in the euro zone and remember, you've got a new currency. how long have we had the euro now? they have a very different system than we do. they're several countries with several different economic policies and they're struggling to come to consensus. the g-7 had the emergency meeting,
