i was pleased to be joined by chairman nolan as well as director cheryl brinkman and leona bridges. we discussed the investments that we have made in san francisco as well as it relates to investment -- transportation. i'm available for any questions and that concludes my report. >> members of the board? >> i wanted to comment on the park. i am looking forward to that. i know there are several cities and we are really on the cutting edge of parking technology in this country. there are several cities that actually sold the rights to their parking and they are letting outside companies set the fees and decide how to manage their parking. we are taking control of it. therefore, we are managing our revenue. this is probably better than the cities to our outsourcing this. i am looking forward to that very much.

i want to say to my colleagues, i'm delighted director cheryl brinkman is here. our board unanimously supported this the last four years. wee proud to be part of it this day and proud of the federal government, board of supervisors and mayor on behalf of the people of san francisco. i want to add one personal note, i'm personally proud to be a member of the san francisco -- san mateo, there's history for you -- san francisco board of direct ares of the m.t.a. i think we do a job on a daily basis and this marks an extraordinary event, proud of this and looking forward to the results very soon. thank you very much. >> thank you, chairman nolan. now we get to hear from one of the leading parking experts in the world, donald shupe is professor of urban planning at ucla, where he served as the chair of department of urban planning and as director of the institute of transportation studies. his research focused on how parking policy affects cities, the economy and the environment. his book "the high cost of free parking" has led to a growing number of cities to rethink
