you're on with author cheryl cashion. hello, i would like to ask the author if she thinks the black lives movement has helped the typical black community. i live here outside philadelphia where there has been a significant increase in crime and homicides. and i believe they are related because now there's less law enforcement and crime prevention. thank you. professor so i am not intimately familiar with. the state of reform or lack thereof with policing that's that's not my area of expertise. there has been admittedly a spike in violent crime since 2020 since the pandemic. there's a lot of speculation about the why of it some people would like to suggest that police have been hampered and and can't do their jobs others are speculate that there's a lot of economic deprivation coming out of the pandemic and that has it. i don't purport to know the answer to that but what i will say is that i've studied some cities that have experimented with strategies outside of policing that have achieved a decline in violent crime even
