. ♪ ♪ cheryl: and hello, everyone, i'm cheryl casone in for liz claman today.is the last hour of trading. as we come onto the air, stocks are fighting back after steep losses, triple-digit losses. at one point the dow was down, get this, 135 points. it has since coming back, it is now hovering in positive territory, so what a day we are having as far as the markets go. a pair of dow components among the biggest losers, pfizer missing first quarter revenue targets this morning. that stock, as you can see on your screen, down nearly 3%. rough day for pfizer. take a look at jpmorgan, that stock down about 2.5%. the banking giant warned it expects fixed income and equities trading revenue going to fall 20% this quarter from just a year ago. big, negative headline for jpmorgan. one factor that is helping to cut this morning's losses, we got some good news on the u.s. economy, and the services sector in particular. it's the usm, institute for -- ism, institute for supply management, saying services grew at the fastest pace in eight months, so that is certainly helpin

jo ling kent, cheryl casone, median home price is up 11% versus a year ago. >> on national average butl say real estate is local. what we have seen is more than a 10% increase particularly in the northeast a year ago. this year it is fractional. talking about thes pieces a population northeast. month over month the numbers are strong but year-over-year are troubling me with regard to home sales. consumer stressed, wage issues. we can discuss that but the bigger story is prices are up, interest rates taking down, but the jump in price has pushed a lot of people out of the market. those millennials who should be outside, and they are not. melissa: i am so sorry they don't have homes. we are so 2 28% below the all-te high. what does it tell you? >> tough to get a full read on the housing market. it is very regional and so difficult for the first time buyer. they have school loans, they don't have the jobs to get into the market and by the homes. it is tough times for them. holding the housing market back to some level. melissa: are you thinking housing looks good? >> i think among millenn

let's go to our panel, cheryl casone, jack howe, portfolio manager, where are they renting versus buyingthey make that decision? >> 8% of counties across this county, better to rent, new york, san francisco, jackson hole, wyoming, who would have known? a lot of markets have become an affordable especially in san francisco. if you are a teacher in san francisco you can't afford to buy and the new york you can't afford to buy soap new york is a better option, simple economics. melissa: at the same time you were hearing about a lot of people who don't want to sell their home even when they are getting a high price. what is behind it? >> the question is you sell your house, then what? where are you going to go? if you look at the prices of homes and how they escalated, the question is i'm going to sell my house, reinvent, trade up but what do i have? that is the question plaguing people. >> people don't have enough equity in order to make that trend. >> exactly right. there was a story this morning, 18% of mortgages were under water. where does the first-time buyer go? >> what does this talk
