abc2 news cheryl conner is in southwest baltimore with the very latest. cheryl? >> reporter: that gas main was here at millington and affecting a senior housing facility and also an elementary school. 900 buildings total. crews from bge will be out here for days after water got into that gas main around 3:30 this morning. linda with bge joins us. certainly a tedious effort. the first you were telling us starts with shutting off gas to the 900 buildings. >> correct. once they worked to row patient -- repair it, restoring it we have to get into each of the homes, about 900 buildings total to turn the gas off. then we can safely get the gas out of the main, make the repairs and go back in to restart gas service if it's safe to do so. >> reporter: we're talking a multiday effort where you go in and have to go back in. >> a gas outage is different from an electrical outage. 900 customers we can typically restore them on short order. in this case multiple days because you have to physically access each and every building that's been affected and you have to do it twice
