nbc bay area's cheryl hurd is live at the scene with the very latest for us. cheryl. >> reporter: well, this road is still blocked off. you can see there are traffic investigators here trying to gather all the information that they can. but the woman involved in this fatal crash was in the crosswalk here at 33rd and mckee. witnesses tell police that there's no question that the pedestrian had the right of way because at this intersection when you press a button the lights start flashing. now, a number of cars stopped to let the woman go by. but a driver heading westbound did not stop. he was traveling at a high rate of speed. the woman was thrown about 40 or 50 feet. when the paramedics arrived, they say she had a faint heartbeat but she was taken to a local hospital, where she died. >> right now what we're looking for is either chevy tahoe or suburban. it was light in color. we don't know if it's silver, light brown, but we did get some good information from our witness. and right now we're investigating the incident. >> reporter: now, witnesses say that the s

reporting live in san jose, i'm cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. >> okay. thank you, cheryl. >>> students at cupertino's monte vista high school are also mourning the death of a teenager, killed by a big rig as the boy rode his bike to school. it happened this morning at mckellan and bulb road near de anza college. witnesses say a gravel truck struck the boy. police say the teenager was in the bike lane and the driver kept going. however, witnesses say they flagged down the big-rig driver who apparently didn't realize what had happened. the driver was not cited by police, but investigators are still trying to determine who's at fault, if the driver may have been distracted. >>> so who is the dead man left on a busy street and what happened to him? that's what police want to know after being called to thornton avenue near willow street in newark. that's where they found the body of an unidentified male this afternoon. now, it's still not clear if the man died there or if someone dumped his body there. the cause of death hasn't been released. thornton avenue,
