cheryl hurd, this is a disturbing trend. what do we know? >> it's very disturbing as the bay area prepares for super bowl week. police here are telling me tonight that the robbery happened at about 8:30 this morning. the fbi is asking for your help in tracking down these stolen items. >> benicia police patrolling this area where a thief broke into this agent's car in this neighborhood. >> the officers's credentials were stolen. >> reporter: stealing from law enforcement has become a hot crime in the bay area. earlier this week a bart police uniform and riot gear taken from a storage room at a stage in concord. and last july, a hand gun used in a crime was stolen from a law enforcement officers's vehicle. the fbi have had 53 weapons stolen nationwide, at least two from the bay area. >> very often stolen firearms fuel other crimes. they're specifically targeted for other crimes. >> so if you live on mccall drive, police are asking for surveillance tape in that area. the fbi is offering a $5,000 reward for the recovery of those stolen weapons.

. >> here is "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd with more. >> the driver left los angeles at 10:30 heading to the bay area. he was scheduled to make several stops including gilroy, san jose. pass jers claim he seemed tired and nodding off at the wheel. the chp says he told investigators he was tired but did not tell them he fell asleep. >> he said he remembered the bus striking -- there were black barrels out here before the collision which you can see beyond the bus now, and then the next thing he remembered is the bus on its side. >> reporter: passengers say he grabbed a coffee. there are also reports it skidded on the rain slicked road. >> the bus did stop in gilroy, as i mentioned. there were two passengers, a scheduled stop at gilroy. >> reporter: according to u.s. department of transportation, in 2014 driving beyond regulated hours is the number three driver violations in roadside inspections for trucks and buses. greyhound officials say they have strict regulations in place. >> federal regulation requires drivers to get at least eight hours of sleep before driving a bus. >> reporter

cheryl hurd has more on the story. this could be bad if kids were recorded too. >> reporter: that's right. the allegations are creepy. and the victim says it happened here at this restaurant in redwood city in mid december. it was her birthday and a trip to the restroom turned into a nightmare. >> i was shocked. i thought i was part of a movie. >> reporter: a movie she didn't audition for. it was just right there. there was the hole for the lens. >> reporter: she doesn't want to reveal her name so tonight we're calling her natalie. she says that a trip to the unisex restroom is an experience she will never forget. >> while i was in there i saw a hole in the trash can and saw a lens. i put my hand in the trash can and found a cell phone recording. >> reporter: she looked through the phone and saw herself and others using the restroom. she alerted the manager but didn't get a response she hoped for. >> she kept saying there must be a mistake. he must have dropped it. >> reporter: she also called police. the phone belonge

cheryl hurd is in walnut creek tonight. what are the symptoms and where is this woman? >> reporter: we first heard about the story online involving a bay area woman who was 21 weeks pregnant who took a trip to bora bora. she was treated for achy joints and a rash, symptoms connected to the zika virus. in january, the centers for disease control put out a warning for pregnant woman telling them to avoid traveling to 14 countries and puerto rico where they could be exposed to the zika virus. >> it is a virus transmitted by mosquitoes. and it causes an infection that in most people they don't know they have been bitten. >> it's a different story if you are pregnant according to jeffrey silvers who is the director of infectious diseases for sutter health. >> it affects the skull and the brain. >> it's called microencephaly. it has become an epidemic in brazil. >> they have 1.3 million cases in the last year of the infection. >> reporter: new cases are now being reported in four states, florida, illinois, hawaii, and texas. there is no vaccine or treatment and that has women

. >> cheryl hurd has one family that is still searching for closure. >> reporter: that's right. hit and run crashes is a serious problem in almost every city and catching the drivers has proven to be difficult. a deadly crash happened here in yward. right now, police believe a yellow alert could have helped catch the driver. flowers mark the spot where 65-year-old aurora bermudez was hit and killed. all ore family knows is that two cars struck her. one stopped and is cooperating with police. the occupants of another car got out to see what happened and took off. the family is not angry. they say they just want justice. >> i know probably he just got shocked and that's why he ran away. so i can forgive him. the only thing is like, he just has to face the consequence of what he did. >> reporter: the cht says a yellow alert would have helped track him down for questioning. >> i have the public helping us locate this person. it's going to be more beneficial to us to have everybody that's driving on the freeways looking for that suspect rather than just having law enforcement looking

nbc bay area's cheryl hurd is at the san mateo county sheriff's apart. this is alarming and rare for the peninsula. >> it really is. and sheriff's deputies here in redwood city say they're looking for a young man in his 20s wearing a gray and burgundy plaid shirt, a burgundy hat, jeans with prominent tattoos on both his forearms. they also say they're hoping to catch a predator tonight. >> she tried to take her dogs out. somebody was coming towards her. we are not showing her face and we agreed to distort her voice. this family who lives in redwood city is shaken up because they know a predator is on the loose. >> trying to choke her. she screamed and he said shut up. >> her 28-year-old sister didn't shut up, penned against a wall. she kept on screaming for help. the suspect ran away when he saw a family member coming to help her. >> if he came here to rob, he would have snatched her purse. towards her, but he didn't. he he rolled on to her and, you know -- >> assaults like this have san mateo sheriff's deputies on alert. in this case, the victim left he

cheryl hurd joins us now. >> reporter: authorities confirm one person is dead and five arrested beep have new video into our newsroom tonight. as can you see, a road is closed and several armed police officers are there patrolling the area. we don't know how many protesters are hold up inside but it is clear that standoff is far from over. the group's elad are was arrested along with his brother and three others. the fbi confirms the oregon state police began taking people associated with the occupation into custody. during the arrest, the feds say shots were fired. one person was killed and another wounded. family members identified the deceased victim as robert finnician, who is known as lavoy. earlier this month, bundy and others started protesting the conviction of ranchers. eamon bundy is the son of cliven bind, who was involved in the 2014 standoff with the government over grazing rights. all of the suspects face felony charges are of conspiracy to prevent officers from discharging weapons through intimidation or threats. >> also, this is a big one, a drug bust in san francisco
