i'm cheryl jennings. today our show talks about body image. it's the way we perceive ourselves and how we look. our families, our friends, social pressure and the mass media are st some of the contributing factors. it's important to note that our by image affects self-esteem and ultimately our mental health. last year several people from the organization about face took off most of their clothes in front of ctoria's secret in san francco. the group feels the chain portrays a body image that's unrealistic. protesters say not everybody can be a size 1 with great curves. >> not everybody needs to be like that in order to be attractive, in order to be awesome in general. and we really wanted to speak out just against that whole piece of it and all the people here really like the way that they look. >> well, about face wants people to feelood about their bodies, no matter what they look like. joining us in the studio right now is jennifer berger, she led the protest. she is the executive director of about face. jennifer, thank you r being here. we

i'm cheryl jennings. larry beil is away today. >> i'm ama daetz. one of the images from that day, the cypress freeway collapsed. today a group gathered near the site to remember the dead and injured as well as those who helped the victims who were trapped after the 15 seconds of shaking 25 years ago. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live from oakland. >> reporter: you know, it's hard to imagine that 25 years ago, this city was turned upside down but people today told me the main lesson is to be prepared. olga and cecil had never been to the site where the cypress freeway collapsed. her husband carmen smith was trapped in his car for four hours. >> she said the people that first came to help were the people that live here. the people without uniform. i started to think [ inaudible ]. >> reporter: her husband suffered a broken back. he died earlier this year. dozens gathered to remember what it was like 25 years ago when the freeway collapsed, killing 42 people. but others were saved by the west oakland community and first responders. david byr

i'm cheryl jennings. >> i'm dan ashley.dified quarantine on the peninsula, a stanford surgeon who recently traveled to liberia. this is a story abc 7 news reporter david louie broke on twitter at 2:40 this afternoon. david is live tonight at the santa clara county health department in san jose with more on the story. david? >> reporter: well, the stanford doctor has been identified as a 43-year-old san mateo county resident and a frequent volunteer with medical missions overseas. while the state didn't issue its mandatory quarantine for ebola treatments until today, it appears this case is being treated with some latitude by local health officers. no federal or state quarantine orders existed when dr. bucks returned to the bay area last friday. an emergency department surgeon, he spent just over a month treating ebola patients in liberia. local health officials consulted with state and federal health officers to put him under a modified quarantine as a health care provider under some risk. he must stay away from work and aw

i'm cheryl jennings in for ama daetz. >> i'm larry beil. police arrested two men who were booked for felony assault. both are from king city. 47 miles south of salinas in monterey county. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live at levi's stadium with more. >> reporter: this is the second assault since the niners began playing at levi's stadium. the first was a domestic violence incident. this one happened just before the game started sometime around 1:20 in the afternoon in a restroom on the north side of the stadium. the motive is still unclear but it could be as simple as an argument over a bathroom stall. let's go to the cell phone video. this is video taken by an observer. there were plenty of witnesses, as you can see, to the attack. here's a chronology of the attack, the first assailant punches the first victim who falls to the ground. a second attacker is punching the second victim. he drags the man out, begins hitting him again. the first attacker joins in. the victim, who is seriously injured, is lying on the ground, motionless, lookin

i'm dan ashley. >> i'm cheryl jennings. thank you for joining us.fter a massive search and tense standoff, the shooting suspect is now in custody. he was wheeled out of a home in auburn about an hour ago. his arrest ends a day-long violent crime spree. it started in sacramento this morning where a sheriff's deputy was shot and killed. another man also critically wounded during a carjacking attempt. the spree then moved to auburn, where two more deputies were shot. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington joins us from sacramento with breaking details. >> reporter: that five and a half hour manhunt is over. two people are in custody and two sheriff's deputies are dead. here's what we're learning this hour. 34-year-old marcel marquez was taken into custody at a home in auburn, about 30 miles from sacramento, where he was holed up. here he is being taken out on a gurney. he has been transported to a hospital, then will be taken to jail. sheriff's officials say he went on a deadly shooting and carjacking spree that killed two deputies and injured at least

i'm larry beil in for dan ashley. >> i'm cheryl jennings.it was the work of two or more people but now they believe it was only one. the gunman has been identified as michael zehaf-bibeau. he's a canadian citizen born in 1982. cnn is reporting he is a recent convert to islam. zehaf-bibeau was killed by the parliament's sergeant-at-arms. zehaf-bibeau first shot and killed a 24-year-old corporal, a soldier who was standing guard at the war memorial. the soldier was a reservist with a 6-year-old son. police say he was killed before the gunman headed into parliament. >> thought it was dynamite or construction rather than anything else. the security guards came rushing down the hallway, usher us all out to the back of the parliament building. >> three other people injured in the shooting have now been released from the hospital. president obama says he offered u.s. help to canada. >> we don't yet have all the information about what motivated the shooting. we don't yet have all the information about whether this was part of a broader network or pl

. >> welcome back to "beyond headlines" i'm cheryl jennings. they druggel with ways to do it. a recent survey warns that children and teens are increasingly trying electronic cigarettes. the devices turn liquid nicotine into a vapor that smokers inhale. the centers for disease control found that in 201210% of high school students admitted they have tried e cigarette, up from 4% the year before. 2% of middle school students also experimented with these battery-powered devices up from 1%. many say they never smoked a real cigarette. >> it's very concerning because nicotine is incredibly addictive and onc you get someone hooked on an e cigarette. will they switch over it it a regular cigarette? we don't know the answer ad until you answer that you don't want to get these products into the hands of children. >>the the food and drug administration is expected to announce a plan to start reg r lating e-cigarettes just li other tobacco products. joining us in the studio on suggestions for ways to kick the habit is rosalynn moya and tobacco coordinator at an dolescent treatment center

i'm cheryl jennings. our show today looks at a topic a of us encounter. blugying.ling with a bully can be traumatic for people of any age. we see them in schools and social media. for example, when robin williams died, his daughter zelda was called names. bullying can cause physical harm and severe emotional damage to children for a long time. it can lead to difficulty in forming healthy relationships as well as lead to depression, poor self-image and even suicide. governor brown signed a bill to close loopholes made apparent by the case of audrie pott. the sayre toe gatt high school student who was sexually assaulted at a party and explicit pictures were later posted on social media. audrie later died by suicide over the humiliation. reporter david louie filed this report earlier this year why her family and others are supporting the change. >> current state law gave prosecutors no choice but to try audrie potts' three classmates in juvenile court where their identities and pub issuement were kept secret. a new bill to be known as audrie's law will specify sexual
