i wanted to talk about cheryl sandberg.she will start a whole new life helping women get into the workforce. what do you make of this, is this a surprise? >> it is not a surprise, she has written this book poised to be an international bestseller. on top of that sh she's on the beginning of what will be leaned in courses and networks to engage women and get them to lean into their ambition and their careers. gerri: to se she said i believef more women lean in, we can change the power structure of our world and expand opportunities. we're all morphing, it will lead to fair treatment for women. do you think that is right? they are better in their souls than men? >> yes, of course. i don't know if i agree with it, but every good leader just by whether they are men or women have traits and quality they share with others. cheryl sandberg has been doing this for a long time. she started the dinners in silicon valley, this is nothing new for her. she is taking it to a whole new level. she was in politics in the clinton days. she i

the two ladies i'm talking about are marisa maier and cheryl sandberg.e flexibility. sandberg has a new book coming uncoura encouraging women to be more aggressive in the workplace. it includes a plan for women to crease their own lean in circles with other women where they will learn her tricks for gaming the status quo and they also invite women to submit their stories to the lean in website as long as those stories have happy endings. no crying over spilt breast milk please. the two women are quite different. mayer doesn't see herself as a working mom role model. while sandberg embraces her iconic working mom status and is seeking to build a social movement to help women advance in the workplace. both fundamentally misunderstand the challenges facing us working moms. overall we earn only 77 cents on the dollar compared to men. some economists estimate that gap is accounted for almost entirely by the mom gap. the penalty in salaries that comes simply by being a mother. researchers at cornell have shown that an equally qualified mother is less likely to

what is cheryl sandberg trying to do? >> if you look at the fortune 500, only 21 ceos are female. in. if you want to understand her ideas, a very good preview is the ted talk she gave a year or two on this and her book will be out march 11. she basically wants women to become more aggressive and savvier about navigating the workplace. >> i think the issue is for many years it's been going like this up, the trajectory and then it's plateaued. for ten years it's been the same number in women in leadership. what's the criticism? >> and where is it coming from? >> it started on feminine listserves. women are talks more that copies of her book are circulating. the worries of the bach that i'm hearing is carla samberg worked at google facebook and women are wondering can she really relate to my life. women are saying my problem is not they need to be more ambitious. they need to navigate the workplace differently but i need more support from my employer or government. there was a great stock from google. they implemented five months' maternity leave. that's the most in the world. attrit
