chesapeake bay. so this is the potomac here. chesapeake bay. there used to be a light house and then there was a huge hospital facility for sailors and marines who would be serving on the blockading squadrons. in 1863, there's a massive stockade to hold about 5,000 confederate prisoners. nearly 50,000 inmates would be incarcerated there. this section right here is the stockade. it was a huge wooden barricade on the north side of the beach adjacent to the chesapeake bay. these images -- these positions here are the camps of the sentries. the main road kind of led in. you can see one of the reasons that this region was chosen, because it was on the peninsula and is nearly impossible to break out. there was a huge creek called lookout creek which had two narrow causeways. then there were forts and each of the causeways with artillery pieces that faced along them. so if there was a mass breakout, the leaders of that breakout would be blown to adams by trying to cross into southern maryland. now, at first

it's primarily rain and along the immediate chesapeake bay. not to say there aren't flakes. sure there are but it has been rain through much of the afternoon and a few flakes. 36 at bwi. so the column of air is cold enough to support snow. this is melting on contact across much of the baltimore area, points west. this is sticking on the ground. bel air, take a look at our abc2 weather bug. yes, we seat snow come down. it doesn't stick at all. just wet conditions on the roads and the surfaces, which are above freezing. mt. airy, some decent snow coming through here. you can see light accumulations on tree tops. western maryland it has accumulate lad little bit points toward frostburg, not particularly large accumulations. watch as the winter weather advisory, other than that pretty uneventful. so we're less than two miles in baltimore, less therein a half mile toward dulles. you see the freeze line pretty well here. terms of anything sticking or icy areas on the road, no concerns. from baltimore, dulles, south and eastward. go north and west of the i-95 corridor, here we have

as we look west over the chesapeake, watch the bridge. it gets obscured on some of the high spots. ourgoer shies view from hemingway. quiet on the severn but some rain at times. bel air, wet roads. that's been the story making it more of a headache. temperatures mid-40s, low if the spht to the north, pretty uniform though. across the region, the rain steadily clearing. rain from delmarva that will be coming to an end. not a lot of new weather behind the preliminary line. basically, nicer, drier and cool weather. a mild dray with lots of sunshine. our developing storm to the west. there are several ingredients, some energy coming out of southwestern united states and really western mexico and our moisture really building in east texas. all that merging together as we go into the weekend and running up our coastline. so far, as we check hot the trend we scan see drying, drying, clear, a nice start to the weekend. friday night fine. saturday some sunshine. then clouds increase. here's what we're watching. this will be the developing system as he were go into saturday night. we take he
