it's a way of life that's going under, and some fear a small island community in the chesapeake bay is no match for the pounding waters that surrounds it. oceanographers also say those waters are rising --- creating double trouble for tangier island. 10 on your side's tom schaad is here to preview tonight's special report on a way of life that's washing away, and if there's anything that can be done to stop it. anita and stephanie, many agree tangier island, the last island fishing community on the virginia side of the chesapeake bay, is a treasure. and it's not easy to get to. we flew from chopper 10, and that trip gave us some spectacular aerials of what this culture is up against. tangier island is remote, about 14 miles west of the eastern shore, near the middle of the bay. to drive here, along with the ferry ride, would have taken us about four hours, which gives you an idea on how remote this island is. and it is literally going under. a recent report released by engineers says tangier has lost close to 70 per cent of its land since 1850. so the problem here is sea level rise fro
