newberry/chester counties. good morning. chester, lancaster & chesterfield counties. up to .25" of ice could form on elevated surfaces across newberry, fairfield and kershaw counties. rain will become mixed with sleet/snow friday night saturday morning with a dusting to 1" accumulation possible. 1" to 2" totals could accumulate in northern newberry/chester we'll continue our weather coverage ahead at 6:30. no snow here yet -- but to the north, some states are seeing there share. we'll be right back. good morning. thanks for waking up with i'm mary king. it's 6:30. we are in first alert mode this morning as a winter storm moves through impacting parts of our state. right now a cold rain is fallin and the midlands, but things could change as temperatures continue to fall this morning. and we're just getting reports in of power outages in columbia. some homes in cottontown are in the dark after reports of transformers blowing in that area. columbia dispatch tells us sce&g has been notified, and they're working to get the lights back on. and take a look at this... a live

majority occurring overnight and early saturday. 14 to 18 inches in some of the higher amounts in chester county, northern delaware for new castle county, 10 to 14 around the philadelphia area, extending to parts of trenton, interior new jersey, parts of kent county. closer to the lehigh valley, six to ten inches. we'll have a cutoff line with the snow here so the poconos could get the least amount of snow, maybe two to six inches here, but the six to ten extends also into new jersey and delaware, less closer to the shore where we could see some mixing. so the major interstates here especially as you get closer to delaware, the i-95 corridor expecting to get the brunt of this storm approaching the philadelphia area, but especially chester county, this is where we expect high totals, again, combining with wind and wet snow at times, heavy snow, again, we could be looking at the potential for power outages in these areas. visibility very low as we go into your saturday. but this will all start late friday night. coming up, glenn shows you a closer look at the timing and neighborhood snow totals. t

as far as snowfall totals, 17 to 23 inches in chester county and delaware county. this clouds downing town, king of prussia, concord. we will see these areas with some of the highest snowfall totals. there's a chance near west chester that some models are indicating we could see higher amounts near about 28 inches. that's going to be n some of the heaviest areas. all snow is expected. the heaviest will be 3:00 a.m. to noon tomorrow. those heavier bands expected to move in overnight. they will get here before sunrise. you will wake up to heavy snow falling. the winds will pick up. it's not that windy now. but it will get windier as we go into the early morning hours. like i mentioned, most of the snowfall in this area of chester county is expected. your snowfall totals will be some of the highest in the area. we expect. this is along the entire i-95 corridor we have seen the snow falling, the plows are out there. it's sticking to surfaces. these are dangerous driving conditions. even though it doesn't look windy and maybe you don't think the snow is too heavy right n

isolated amounts even higher than that, chester county we expect to get a lot of snow, too. that extends into philadelphia. keep in mind it is major interstates, as well. interior sections of new jersey, even including parts of burlington county and now looking up towards the lehigh valley. parts of montgomery county and bucks county you can see 17 to 23, but then 12 to 17 a little outside that for upper bucks county. lehigh valley could see that amount, too, but eight to 12 closer to the poconos and lehigh valley, including allentown. four to eight farther north and west you go. now the shore and beaches we're going to have to watch this closely. we expect heavy, wet snow, a lot of snow, but the rain/snow line is also expected to move in. that's why you see a cut off, then new jersey, light blue, eight to 12. again, we expect a lot of snow. coming up, glenn will zoom around more across the area and show you a closer look at other counties, that's straight ahead. >> sheena, first alert team coverage continues right now, though. up in the air george spencer once again live in

breaking news out of chester county this morning. crews on the scene of a water main break in east whiteland township. katy zachry is live on scene with the breaking details. what do we know, katy? >> i'm standing alongside swedesford road. this section behind me is closed off because of this water main break. the portion between phoenixville pike and church road, that is closed off to traffic. you can see flares out there. and emergency vehicles blocking anyone's way down here. it is incredibly icy. this water main break occurred about an hour ago. water has been flowing, obviously, for that long. they haven't turned off the pipe yet. crews are still trying to figure out the source of this water main break. at last check, they believe coming from the chester valley golf club, which is just off your camera shot to the left. so, obviously, a very large property here. and they're just trying to pinpoint where on the property this watermain break is. what you have is this water pouring along swedesford road. fortunately, there is a pond

here's a look at some of the bigger snow amount areas, new castle county, chester county, but now we'll look into areas of south jersey. here's counties in south jersey we're talking about, salem, cumberland, gloucester county, camden county, and burlington county, mix that could change to a rain, closer to the shore especially, but that would be critical the snow amounts. in this case we still expect those high snow amounts, heaviest snow occurring 4:00 a.m. to noon saturday. strongest winds will be closer to the shore, but either way we expect wind gusts possibly near 55 miles an hour, along with that heavy snow, so, yes, going to be a lot of snow falling through the overnight hours and saturday. now we're looking at philadelphia, we could see some mix, especially towards the end of the system, but either way we expect snow, heavy snow 3:00 a.m. to noon saturday. blowing snow will be lowering visibility, so we'll be watching these totals, as well, right now about 10 to 14 inches in those areas. for tonight, mostly clear and cold, dry tonight. 22 for the low in philadelphia, tomorrow a

, gloucester, camden, philadelphia area, also parts of montgomery county, lower bucks county, chester county, 17 to 23 inches. isolated amounts, that could be higher than that. near the lehigh valley we're looking about 12 to 17 here. that's where you see the blue coloring. that includes berks county, lancaster county, allentown, but farther north eight to 12 inches and near the poconos four to eight inches there. south jersey we see the higher amount there, 12 to 17 inches in the blue and eight to 12 closer to atlantic city, but along the immediate shore, that's where we expect to see possibly that changeover to rain or rain/snow line moving in, which would drop totals down to four to eight inches. either way for south jersey and delaware, these are the areas we expect the highest potential for heavy, wet snow, along with wind gusts near 60 miles an hour, so power outages are likely. that's going to be combined with the coastal flooding we expect, too, with high tide and full moon and strong onshore wind. blizzard conditions as we go overnight and into tomorrow. coming up, glenn will talk a

it does include the philadelphia area and lower bucks county, lower montgomery county, southern chester, delaware county, the northern half of delaware look how much of south jersey is covered. you won't be spared. there may be more power outages because the snow will be heavier and weather and there will be stronger winds. a winter storm watch from upper bucks montgomery and chester through berkshire hathaw and, but couan and, ban andbeand berks county. so there will be significant snow but there will be mixing going in. not much close by. we have two pieces of more choice and energy and these two storms are going to combine as we get toward the east coast. we'll add more gulf of mexico moisture and then we'll add atlantic moisture to this and it will be very large, covering a lot of the country, there will be a lot of airport delays and cancellations. there's friday 6:00, it's not quite here. but as we go through the evening, the later you stay up friday, the more likely it will snow and the heavier it will snow towards saturday morning and it snows pretty much all day saturday and in

a water main break in chester county is fixed and the road is open. pipe broke yesterday morning in east whiteland township. >>> ten minutes before 7:00. a frigid morning. we issued a first alert for bitter cold temperatures. it's nice and clear look at the great view from here at the studios, cold at 17 with the wind gusting to 26 miles an hour. look at that flag in center city. it's a live view from the loews hotel, we will see brilliant sunshine all day long. but the wind will hold the temperatures down during the day so it stays below freezing. even without the wind it's cold. 13 in chester springs, wilmington is 15 degrees, look at the teens for pottstown, allentown, quakertown and reading, reading feels like it's below zero with the wind blowing and solidly in the teens and delaware and south jersey. we'll see the temperatures climb. look how clear it is, brilliant sunshine through the day but clouds will be building as we head toward the weekend. the storm system we're watching is that one moving on to the west coast, it is going to be marching

locally, approaching parts of land cast somewhere chester counties. i don't think it will be a big deal. future weather showing light snow in parts of extreme south jersey delaware. that would be by 11:00. maybe a half an inch or less accumulating, be careful, though. that will be sticking to any untreated surfaces. now again, that's not going to be a big weather system moving through, dry by the time you wake up tomorrow morning. then we look into the end of the week. friday, there's the snowstorm friday morning. it starts to get stronger. intensifies as it gets closer friday afternoon. now evening commute 5:00 p.m. it is just to our south. so, the slightest shift in timing with the shift in the track or potential speed up in this storm would be putting snow in and around the evening commute at this point. looking at it approaching the area. still a couple days out. we do expect this to change a bit. 11:00 p.m., rain/snow line offshore. snow continues to accumulate 8:00 saturday morning. looking at snow falling, still accumulating across the area. it

, central and southern chester county, delaware county.ut farther north and east won't be quite as much snow but still a heavy snowfall. in fact, heavy to move as well. so this is one of those storms you want to get ahead of and instead of taking it all at once by the time it's all done on sunday, get out during the day on saturday if the you can, and clear what is on the ground. blowing snow will be a problem, and that is the going to lead to some higher snow totals in some areas, mother nature will give the lehigh valley, some of the north and west suburbs 6 to 10 inches. limited in south jersey because of the mixing expected, the rain snow line moving inland. during the day still time to get out and about and make some plans for the coming storm. it will be dry during the day but clouds will be on the increase and take over by this afternoon. that will keep -- help keep temperatures lower. by tomorrow morning we'll be in the 20s, and 31 the high temperature, a major winter storm through the day on saturday. finally tapering off early on

this is chester county. it's a multi-vehicle accident. three vehicles involved. main lanes of the 30 bypass moving just fine and the accident itself was on the ramp. we're watching live as crews are leaving the scene at this point. the ramp from the 30 bypass eastbound to 322 will be officially blocked for a little while now and we can see now the crews are leaving the scene so looks like that accident in the process of clearing outer. it was an accident involving three different vehicles here in chester county on the ramp from the 30 bypass eastbound to 322. let's take a little fly on the pennsylvania turnpike here westbound starting near bensalem seeing speeds near willow grove about 64, 60 miles an hour. no delays at this point headed towards willow grove and fort washington between those areas. looking pretty good at this point. and on the ramp right now from the schuylkill westbound to the vine eastbound the construction crews have cleared. we're watching that traffic move at this point and you can see that ramp is reopened. the vine westbound is reopened. e

what we're seeing now is just very light rain and a lot of this is really coming toen a end in chester county but areas around wilmington saw the light rain, that's starting to move out. moving toward chester and delaware county across the i-95 corridor, parts of montgomery county light rain falling across 476, moving into upper bucks county, buckingham, seeing the light rain and the good news here is that temperatures are above freezing. well above freezing so we don't expect that to cause slick spots. later on tonight the wet roads will be freezing over for those areas. rain is moving in from the south and the west, not a lot of moisture with this moving in at the moment. so most of it will be on the light side. it's really late tonight very early tomorrow morning that we'll be watching for those areas of rain and possibly a wintry mix with temperatures dropping. right now we're all well above freezing, no one's in the 30s, 40 in allentown, 41 pottstown, 40 in reading. near 50 in philadelphia and northeast philly is 50 in millville also atlantic city, mid-50s in wildwood. so we've seen melt

happening today, a 6-year-old chester county man -- 60-year-old chester county man will go before the judge charged of sexually abusing a child. he was arrested on his 60th birthday. he is accused of molesting a family member between 2010 and 2014. he was active with church and youth groups, so police are fearful there could be more victims out there. >>> a feud has developed between 300 ministries and a homeless couple. 300 am i tree raised money to lease them an apartment. the ministry said the family is uncooperative and want to evict them out of their home. the family said the christian group said they are forcing them to christian activities. >>> that's not the issue, this family is not interested in getting help. this family wants a free ride to be able to sit down in a home not even try. >>> if the couple does not have a place to live they cannot get their two young children back, educator and prominent leader is trying to bring both sides together. >>> a local eatery will close because of problems going on with the chain. >> reporter: macy's is closing in ardmore. it will slas

state police surrounded a home in chester county for the report of a stabbing. >> it happened a few hours in lower oxford in the southern end of the county. an accident chester county route 1 oxford bypass. some of the area bridges have 25-mile an hour speed restrictions like the tacony-palmyra. the platt bridge does not have a speed restriction. you can see no sign of the snow on the platt bridge that's deceiving you look out there you're driving along you hit shick spots. as you look at the temperature profile you can see why it's a problem, melting last night and refreezing 23 degrees in allentown. 6 in millville. anything that melted has frozen once again. >>> 30 people have died as a result of the storm. an officer with the capitol police died while shoveling snow. a man in allentown died while shoveling snow. a man from berks county died when a plow trapped him in the vehicle the snow blocked the exhaust pipe trapping the carbon monoxide in the vehicle. he was found slump over the wheel. >>> dart delaware will have limited access. >>> i'll be glad if this is it for the year to be honest. i don't like snow, but if this is it fore the year, i'm happy. >>> the action cam caught up wit

let's zoom in at northern delaware, chester county, delaware county, salem, gloucester, camden counties through the philadelphia area, lower montgomery county and bucks counties, we could have isolated areas with a little bit more snowfall moving in, especially once we start to see that heavy snow overnight and early tomorrow morning, so that will be accumulating quickly. by the time it's all done, that's what these totals will be. parts of berks county, into the lehigh valley, upper bucks county, 12 to 17 inches possibly. other parts of the lehigh valley, eight to 12 inches, four to eight closer to the poconos, so we'll be watching up near there. for areas in interior new jersey, atlantic county, cumberland county, kent county, delaware, eight to 12 inches also and higher amounts farther to the north of that. closer to the shore, that's where we need to watch that rain/snow line, so we expect about four to eight inches of snow, but again any change over to rain or mixing that will occur will be lowering these numbers here. we'll be watching that closely through tonight and into the day

in chester county, a teen has been accused of dropping contraband drugs into a trash can at the chester county detention center for her boyfriend, who is an inmate at the jail. a sheriff's report says 18-year-old brianna fry dropped eight white pills believed to be loritab and 12 sleep aids wrapped in a paper towel. fry left the pills in the women's restroom for her boyfriend, 26-year-old chaz flecha. both remain in jail at this time. two people have been injured during what is being called a general aviation incident at the savannah hilton head international airport. as you can see, a plane is in a ditch. this happened around 9:00 a.m. the two people on board were taken to a near by hospital, and no word on their condition. a father in san diego is upset by the way tsa agents searched his 10-year-old daughter. the patdown took place last week at raleigh-durham airport in north carolina. agents found a juice box in the girl's carry-on. the juice exceeded the limit of three-ounces of liquids for carry-ons. tsa agents patted down the girl, a process that took nearly two-minutes. kevin pay
