so, there became this whole academic movement centered around mit and the university of chicago in the '60s to prove, you can't really prove it but to explore the randomness of markets and people would talk about the random walk hypothesis and basically the future, the best possible prediction of what the market is going to do in the future is a totally random process. there is no secret to what it is going to do and this is pretty sensible. it is not absolutely true it turns out that a pretty sensible idea and it mit were first took hold it was-- of the mit professors thought the markets were hard to predict but they were mit professors and they were really smart so they would find ways to beat the market by using their advance knowledge of-- pauls samuelson the txdot there was part of this game. the university of chicago, they did the same research but people weren't interested in finding ways to beat the market and make money because whole of randomness line of research collided with this kind of libertarian revival that was happening in chicago led by milton friedman and it became

in '30s with the dairy price, the chicago exchanges lost a bunch of their business. they are this come with up new products to trade futures in. they thought will go onions. it went along for a while. at that point, the market was -- this was the chicago change. they were very small. dominated by small members of traders. a couple of traders in the early '60s decide to corner the onion market. so you have the incredible onion bubble and collapse. and all of these onion farmers who should have just taken advantage of the bubble to like sell. say, okay, i'll deliver my onions at that insane price. they all started joining in on the market and buying the futures themselves. so all of these onion farmers were wiped out. they got congress to ban the onion future's trading. if you could just look at onion prices before and after market then you could learn something. and so initially when the legislation first came in, you thought let's look back to onion markets before and after they had onion future's trading in the first place. and sort of inconclusive. and then the fir

thompson correctional center is about 150 miles west of chicago.own has a population of 600 people. correspondent richard lui, wow. so, if you're a resident there, not sure what you would think about that. what do they think about the proposal? >> you might have a reaction, 600 people. a lot of people in thompson had one thing on their mind, jobs. the prison there sat empty for five years because the state simply didn't have the resources to keep it open. it's still almost empty, but state officials say this plant could pump up to $1 billion into the area and create up to 2,000 jobs. >> got this big, expensive building sitting over there empty, or practically. they put some people to work. that's what they need here. >> we need jobs in our area. very depressed. both economically and emotionally. people are looking for these jobs. >> robin, the mayor here, the village mayor estimating the move would cut the county's unemployment in half. >> one move like that would cut the whole county's unemployment in half. job is a plus. what about security? is a
