[ cheers & applause ] >> reporter: it was my honor to serve as the emcee for the opening night of the film festival that started back in 1964 and has attracted some of the biggest stars in the world. remember, film festival founder artistic director-- >> jack nicholson, back at the grenada theater in the '70s. >> reporter: this year's opening night a-lister is no stranger to chicago. >> a man with no fear here tonight, edward norton! [ applause ] >> reporter: norton's breakout film, primal fear, was shot in chicago. tonight, he returned with director john ciewrn for a screening of his latest in which he costars with robert deniro. >> he's weird to work with, because he's so quiet. >> and he hasn't had you killed yet! >> no, no, no, we're old pals. i tease him more than anyone else. but he's great. he's, you know, he's, he's
