early voting is underway in illinois with chicago-area election officials predicting a record number of ballots will be cast before the november 6th election day. in addition to early polling they're also predicting a strong surge in voting by mail an option state law has made more convenient since the last general election in 2008. this year early voting will run through november 3rd. the saturday before election day. people wishing to vote early must present government-issued identification something that's not required on election day. chicago has early voting centers in each of the city's 50 wards. a new wall street journal poll shows the presidential race is a tie. nationally, both candidates have 47 percent support. among women, president obama leads 51 to 43 percent, which is the smallest lead the president has had this year. and here's a look at an estimate of electoral college votes from "real clear politics dot com". it shows the president can expect 201 votes from states that are expected to go his way. romney has 206. but there are 131 votes up for grabs in toss-up states
