cnn's "chicagoland" premieres tonight at 9:00.to be joined now by chicago's police superintendent mccarthy. he's also led the newark, new jersey, police department. good to have you with us and also you're credited with almost 10% decrease in the murder there. and sitting directly to the right of superintendent mccarthy is evelyn diaz, who leads chicago's department of family and support services. superintendent mccarthy, i'd love to start with you. i seized upon what you said in the documentary, a wholistic approach to this problem. but i'm still not 100% clear on just exactly what that is. what is it? >> so, ashleigh, everybody wants to know what's one thing that we've done that's effecting the crime rate here in chicago. and it's not one thing, it's everything. we've put so many programs and policies in place internally in the department, but the first conversation that i had with mayor emanuel i had never met him before i interviewed for this job, and we had a shared vision as to what modern policing should look like. and it s

recommending that a new transit super-agency replace all of the existing boards, and oversee the entire chicagoland transit network. the panel says the current structure pits board against board, while a single authority could more easily coordinate transit policy and funding. chicago taxi drivers are keeping an eye on seattle, as they fight to regulate the city's rideshare companies. seattle's city council just voted unanimously to cap the number of rideshare drivers for companies like uber-x, lyft and sidecar. the vote means there can be no more than 150 rideshare drivers on the road at any given time. the programs allow people to arrange rides with a smartphone app. taxi companies don't like the competition, and claim the rideshare companies aren't properly insured. the t-v show "the good wife" is getting grief for getting it's facts wrong about the blagojevich trial. on sunday's episode, investigators are trying to get the fictional governor's former attorney to turn on him ... in a voter fraud investigation. the agent references the case against former governor rod blagojevich, saying his lawy

now the city featured in a new cnn series, chicagoland.on, crime, politics and life in the city. according to police the murder rate dropped 18% from 2012 to 2013. that wasn't enough to save the 15-year-old. she was gunned down in a chicago park in january 2013. she was out with friends after her final exams. her murder near president obama's home came a week after she had performed at his inauguration. since her death her parents have started a foundation, the goal to partner with police and afterschool organizations to make changes. this week, we sat down with her dad and asked, how do you keep going? >> how we're doing it, i don't think either one of us know. we know it is a necessity. we know it is a definite necessary that we speak and hopefully we can try to make a difference for some other kid that's possibly on the same road that those kids were on. >> you realize you represent the heartbreak of chicago, right? >> no. no. i really don't realize it. >> she epitomized what a good student was, lived not far from the president, was goi
