i am a chinatown community planner at c.d.c. in 1940, my dad was a teen achbager who worked on a ship in san francisco, and because war broke how the in the pacific, i had to find a way to stay in the city. during that time, the exclusion act was in full effect thanks to julius kahn. he actually called the chinese the most debasing people on the face of the earth. my dad's outlet was tai chi, and he would go to local playgrounds to practice it, as a way to feel he belonged in a city, in a country where he was constantly told he didn't belong and was not welcome. and so if it wasn't for the repeal of the act, he wouldn't have become a citizen, and i wouldn't be standing here today. i believe that there's power in history in place and names, and renaming this park is a critical step for our city to work towards one which our public spaces are safe spaces where all feel welcome. so -- so the next time i bring my kids to this park, i sincerely hope that it would be way more than a teachable moment where i have to force them to -- fo

a project by way of tunnel leading into chinatown by way of north beach. in december the first streetcar was driven into the tunnel. just two years after its berth, muni had added two lines. and k, l and m lines that span out from westportal. in 1928, the j line opened heading west to the beach. in 1944 san francisco voters finally approved muni take-over of the market street railway. by then motor bus and trolley bus improvement had given them the ability to conquer san francisco's hills. after the war most of the street-car lines would be replaced with motor or trolley bus service. in 1947, the mayor recommended replacing two lines with motor coaches. and it appeared that san francisco's iconic cable cars had seen their final days. entered mrs. cluskin, the leader to save the cable cars. arguing that the cable cars were a symbol of the city, and she entered a charter placed on the november ballot. it passed overwhelmly. the california street cable railway was purchased by the city in 1952. there were cut backs on the cable car system and in 1957 only thr

my dad and my grandparents were born and raised in chinatown. i'm a resident of district 3. supervisor peskin, i called your office yesterday and asked if you were supporting this resolution, city proposal 22 and i was told you have no public opinion. i hope you vote yes on it. i want to urge all of you to support this resolution. i have deep roots in san francisco and i have been out to rallies where we have been supporting the families of people who have been killed by police, like mario woods, alex, lopez, i have seen the pain of the friends and family of these people and i really believe if the police had been implementing these reforms that these young men would not have been killed. i've been to police commission meetings with the p.o.a. is clearly against the reforms. it really breaks my heart to see that. so i hope you support this resolution. sorry, this is the first time i've been to a board of supervisors meeting. i'm just learning to use my voice. so i want to know that i could be heard. i also wanted to speak out against the sweeps of the tent encampments. sorry

in the older parts of the city where you have multiple forms of transportation and north beach, chinatown. we installed -- yes, photos in there -- we have a stop sign where individual neighbors had been asking for three years for an area that was significantly in need of a stop sign. i have no idea why it was denied but i have appreciated the sfmta responding and i appreciated being out there installing it. you can ask mr. maguire, people were coming out of their house -- multiple people came out of their house -- at least 10 neighbors at 10:00 on a friday or 11:00 on a friday, they came out to really tell their stories. one woman said i was the person that personally put in the petition and was denied multiple times and she came out. she had no idea that we were even installing it that day. so she was ecstatic. so i can tell you that i have no intention of wanting to review every single stop sign or speed bump or traffic calming measure. but what i will say is that is one of the goals of what we intended to put forward is that there can't always be this burden put on residents to say you
