back in july, chipotle stood at $376. people were concerned about a quick decline like we had a year ago. growth has reaccelerated. the stock has vaulted to $527 in an amazing move. buffalo wild wings, dyne equity is good. the restaurant group is rerated. chipotle is the finest. they were hanging out about $150, seemed to be doing nothing. in fact, that stock had been basically unchanged for a full year. then word began percolating of all these new big finds in the bakken, utica, the permian, niobrara, fueled by fabulous news coming from pioneer natural resources, noble energy and it has run to 191. the last quarter was a par vel. federal express is a huge transport. all that growth here and around the world. that's why so many people stayed away from the darn thing. after a nice move from the '80s, fedex had been marking time in early october. then a remarkable quarter showed the massive destruction last year was beginning to pay off. the stock jumped up $133. okay, you could say some of this has returned from world wide

not the kind of numbers we used to see from chipotle. but potbelly is not so hot. that number really can't justify a price-driven multiple in the 80s. i'm sorry, i wanted to believe, but i can't. both companies have good bloodlines, the ceo of noodles coming from chipotle, and ceo of potbelly coming from yum brands. noodles has a more malleable concept. it has a lot less competition than a sandwich shop. virtually every metrics, a better company than potbelly corporation, but that still begs the question, does it deserve to be bought? the simple fact is that noodles is a restaurant stock trading 81 times next year's earnings. now, you know my rule of thumb if you're been watching for a long time. new people, focused, even for high-flying momentum stocks, you don't want to pay more than twice the growth rate. so i'm capped off at 56 times earnings for noodles. on the other hand, this may be the case where the size of the opportunity, 2,500 domestic locations, simply can't be contained or constrained by the traditional price earnings multiple analysis. that's the fou

chipotle has repeatedly guided high hoo higher. 30 million shares short, a lot of big-time investorsed in the name and i don't know how it resolves itself but the market is not making any easier. >> switch gears and talk about the government shutdown. it's having many unintended consequences including possibly delaying ipos. how are you? >> doing well. a lot of people talking about the debt and the ipo market because of the shutdown and that's greatly exaggerated. six deals planning to price this week or next week and bankers i've talked to say there are a handful of investors road show in the works for companies that have filed. and other companies looking to go public by the end of the year missed the chance to do so. a few factors at work here. one, the sec open for business. companies able to reach relevant people to get feedback on filings. upside gains and downside risking even with the stalemate, the market isn't moving much. neither is the vix. it hasn't spiked to alarming levels but it's a data point that hasn't become worrisome for companies and bankers. twitter is the deal

we're watching chipotle set to report its third quarter earnings after the bell today and we're looking impact of the shutdown as well. we already heard about a slowdown in a lot of different retail sales numbers in the month of september going into october and so the question for chipotle is, did the consumer continue to spend when it comes to casual dining and quick serve restaurants. this stock has been a monster up about 86% from its bottom so it's had a tremendous run. lot of analysts are turning bullish on the stock and one of them at janney cites the untapped potential of breakfast. no plans right now to test a breakfast menu but, you know, breakfast burritos, would you like that? that sounds like it has -- >> you would love that. breakfast burritos, anything you can do to use the space during a 24 hour clock or 18 hour clock instead of a 12 hour clock is a good thing. >> how many ofs us have gone to what would be a dinner restaurant at the airport because they're servingl bagels or something and you need something. >> ha could be a driver here. we're watching intuitive reporting
