up here tow truck drivers, chp trying to get this car out of the ravine. i walked down there earlier. this is not going to be an easy get here. the chp told me 15 minutes ago might be an hour. could be longer than that. if you are coming through here be careful. when i talked to the chp they said this accident wasn't necessarily caused by the weather. >> we had a driver on the way to work. stated he was driving 55 miles an hour. the rain started earlier in the evening tonight. he said a deer had run out in front of him and he swerved to avoid the deer and unfortunately lost control of his vehicle a long the way. >> reporter: how far is it down there? we can't see the car. >> approximately 100 feet. after he drifted off the roadway collided with the 55 miles an hour speed limit sign. >> reporter: so chp officers and other local officers were out here putting up flairs in the roadway so people can be careful coming through here.

chp says this was a three car accident. near as they can figure right now in the early stage of the investigation, one car traveling southbound on880 was disabled in the middle of the roadway. and based on the accident or what they've deemed to be what happened, the car actually was turn around and facing the opposite direction. two cars came through there. one car hit the second car. the first car head on. and the person was either outside the car or inside of the car. that person died on the scene. there was another car involved. we're not sure where that vehicle hit the first car or if it hit the second car. two vehicles had to be towed away from the scene. live picture right now you can see that, yes, we've been able to show you all lanes are now open on 880 southbound. again, chp's been investigating what happened here and why. one person did die in this accident at 3:12 this morning. another person was hit his car was damaged. he couldn't drive it away. it was towed away. but 880 southbound is now open. reporting live
