. >>> a chp officer is in the hospital. a gunman is dead after a shooting on a highway near sacramento. the shooting happened during a traffic stop in elk grove. the chp officer was approaching the suspect's car when the driver shot at the officer several times. the officer was hit, but he did return fire, killing the suspect. the wounded officer is now in a sacramento hospital. he is expected to be okay. transportation officials are investigating a muni bus crash that killed a man in san francisco. the accident happened at the intersection of 5th and mission street around noon yesterday. the man was wearing a security guard uniform. he appeared to be on his way to work when the bus hit him. firefightered used wooden planks to free his legs, but he died from injuries at the hospital. the bus driver is placed on leave while the official investigation begins. the power of the eastern bands in 2006 and 2007. the paper says it discovered he falsified the tests and did not check to see the testing gauge was working properly. >>

chp issued a heavy fog advisory on the bay bridge. a couple of the bridges, the bay bridge, the benecia bridge, again you will see it on the oakland and san francisco side of the span. most of the cameras, we're seeing the thick fog. difficult to see the traffic conditions out there. and some of our cameras are actually unusable because it is just a big sheet of black. you can't see any of the car, any of the traffic through the thick fog. you can maybe make out a few headlights. that's westbound 237. still okay drive times out of millipitas, heading toward san jose. but once again, the fog advisories, they're spread out across the bay area. and chp issued this one, 101 near mountain view at ellis. really, all along the peninsula. 280 through portions of san man county and apparently thick by edgewood road as you make your way through woodside. so it might be a good option to use mass transit. checking in with bart constantly throughout the morning and so far systemwide, still no delay. and ace and muni and cal train and the ferries,

chp has been calling this a mudslide, but we have learned that pg&e somehow is involved in testing inhat area. what can you tell us, tom? >> reporter: it's not exactly clear what is gooding on, but i kind of diswliend was happening they were doing hydro static testing, filing the big line with water and pressure that water up, if there is a leak to be found that leak will be found with water rather than with fire. so what happened was apparently they had one of these pipes pressured up and it apparently failed. and in failing, what that did was cause a lot of water to escape and come down the hillside and when it came down the hillside it obviously took debris out with and it got that water on the i-280 north, just coming up on farm hill boulevard. there was enough debris in the road that chp felt compelled to shut down the entire 20 northbound for a little while. they were able to get a couple of lanes open and now there are three lanes open and what we have now is the situation where you see a lot of trucks up there. and what you see also going on is on the hillside, there appears t
