chp tried to pull over a suspected drunk driver. they said the driver began to pull over and decided he wasn't going to stop, took off, kept going eastbound, got off in dublin, then turned around and came back in the westbound direction of 580. went on 237, then got to 880. when he got off on haganberger, he started going southbound on 880 and came up the wrong way. one of the people in the car was taken away in an ambulance. second person actually was searched by police and they eventually put what is called a spit bag over his head because he was spitting at the officers. we're not sure, but one of the two people in the car was tased. we're not sure if this person was taken away in the ambulance or if it was a person put in the squad car later, but they're facing felony evading, suspected dui from one of the drivers. damage to public property. when the car came up this off ramp, he had to make a u-turn. the chp officer cut inside the car and bumped the car. that's one of the reasons the car had to stop, the chp officer made contac

chp is investigating a fatal crash on westbound 80 in richmond. claudine wong has just arrived on the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: i just talked to the chp. they say right now they are looking for the coroner. i want to show you the van involved in this accident. chp says this all happened when a white pickup truck was traveling in the carpool lane. that's the we're standing in frow. they say that went all the way across all four lanes. that's when it was clipped by this white toyota truck. it flipped a couple of times at least and the driver was killed inside that van. police say it seems pretty clear cut about how this all went down. they say the driver of the white pickup truck and the passenger, both are okay. they've already left the scene. the coroner was called. we were told the coroner would be here about 45 minutes ago. there's nothing more than they can until the quicherier in take the victim from the scene. i want to take you back over to the other side of the freeway. they have two lanes of traffic open right now. we'll wa

the chp is on alert as well. roberts rode along with the california highway patrol on a lookout for aggressive drivers. >>stanley: finding aggressive drivers is not as easy as it seems. the chp is always looking out for everything. this driver in the white suv is writing 70 in a 65 but is following too close to the car in front. this could lead to road bridge. the driver was issued a warning. this is trevor was falling too closely however he turned out to be a law enforcement officer. >>stanley: the driver of this yellow cab just cut off a big rig on 101 near hospital curve. one tiny ever could that resulted in a major collision. the driver gets to have a chat with the officer. officer: you cut in front of the big rig. >>stanley: the driver claims he was trying to get to ninth street and is needed to change lanes but then changed his mind. >>officer: you cannot just cut people off like that. they're trying to get some more safely as well. >>stanley: are the driver told the officer he already had two points on his

chp sergeant on the scene told me this began with cash rally chp trying to pull over a car, still on the scene, eastbound 580, eastern castro valley. the suspicion was dui. the car initially tried to pull over or slow down as if to pull over, but then kept going. from there it was a wild chase. to dublin, got off the freeway, turned around, starting going westbound on 580, at some point, the suspects were on 237 and got to 880 over here. as to how they got on this side of the roadway, that's unclear. the sergeant on the scene told me they stopped on the highway and turned around to get onramp, but it's not exactly clear what happened. once on the scene here. i'm told by firefighters, one of the suspects was tasered by one of the officers on the scene. that suspect has been taken away in an ambulance. when i spoke to the firefighter he said he was okay but, his words "really drunk." looks like they're taking one side of the cuffs off right now, it doesn't appear that he's hurt. when i talked to chp they said he didn't have any injuries. beyond them, further off in the distance, you ca

there are 10 official fog advisories issued by chp between midnight and 4:15 this morning all still in effect mainly for the bridges. just bridge in the area is under a dense fog advisory except the dumbarton bridge. word of a stall on the golden gate bridge. we are trying to figure out where it is, sounds like it's just north of the bridge on northbound 101ful but when conditions are this foggy, obviously it can be dangerous to have a stall in lanes like that so watch out for that. we'll let you know if there are any other problems. this is a live look at the san mateo bridge where fog is making it hard to see cars. but on the right side you can see a few taillights, the commute direction of westbound 92. we haven't seen too many incidents in the last hour or so, so quiet on the roads. drivers are obeying the rules of the road and going the speed limit as gil said. so overall, not too many problems but again watch out for the fog. more dense fog advisories not just on bridges but portions of pacifica, daly city, highway 35 at hickey boulevard, chp issued one there as well as stretches

the chp says they caught a man flying drunk. late yesterday chp pilots spotted a man flying as low as 50 feet within 100 feet of traffic on highway 37 in sonoma county. the plane was followed to petaluma municipal airport where officers talked to the pilot and detected the odor of alcohol. they gave the 62-year-old a field sobriety tests. based on the results he was arrested for flying under the influence. >> wow, that's wild. >>> investigators blaming foggy conditions for san jose's first traffic death of the year. a 25-year-old woman died when two cars slammed into her car on curtner avenue during tuesday morning's commute. police say she was coming off the dumbarton avenue when the accident happened. that intersection, for the record, does not have a traffic signal. >>> nevada highway patrol say a walnut creek man is the victim of a deadly accident in lake tahoe. 21-year-old alex moore was hit by a highway patrol suv about 1:00 a.m. on new year's day. the officer said moore was walking on the highway and tried unsuccessfully

chp investigators believe this van rolled four times on i-80 in richmond 6:00 this morning. the driver was wearing a seat belt but died in the crash. according to witnesses, he was driving slowly, 50 miles per hour in the car pool lane. cars kept passing him. they say that he was brake checking, tapping his brakes, there was tailgating, a pick-up truck passed him, he got angry and irritated, he drove up next to the pick-up and then slammed into the side of the truck. >> what we are trying to determine is, if these parties knew each other? was it road rage? was it is unsafe lane change? there were reports about brake checking in the area between these vehicles. we have very good witness statements. the driver of the pick-up truck stayed behind gave us a good statement. for us it is the process of thorough collision investigation. >> reporter: after the driver flipped that minivan four times he landed on all four wheels in the middle of i-80. fortunately, no one else hit him. this was 6:00 in the morning. that could have helped the situation. chp officers are saying they are f

"timesaver traffic" showing us that things are moving well across the span in either direction westbound and eastbound 92 a 13-minute drive time. the right side of the screen is the commute direction. elsewhere the silicon valley ride no issues here, as well. this is right near milpitas and 880/237. coming around the bend is westbound 237 traffic and so far not bad all the way towards san jose. in fact, all of the south bay looking problem-free. no major roadwork to talk about so 101 is up to speed all the way up towards santa clara. and coming out of downtown san jose, still really light traffic conditions on 280 all the way towards cupertino. this is one of our first spots usually to back up westbound 580 out of the altamont pass, still 15 minutes out of the altam
