>> reporter: yeah, chris. good to be with you. a very electric moment as luigi mangione appeared at the courthouse, appearing to talk to those cameras saying something along the lines of completely out of touch and it is an insult to the intelligence of the american people. it's not entirely clear what he said as he's slammed against the wall. he was clearly agitated and clearly had something to say. that's the most animated we have seen him. this is the same courthouse where he had his appearance yesterday before a judge where he was listed and read the charges he faces in pennsylvania. five charges, two felonies and three misdemeanors to which at that point he was very quiet. he answers yes, no, yes, sir, no, sir. it was only after he was denied bail that he did speak up, chris. that was one of the first moments where we actually saw a little bit of his demeanor and a little bit of that attitude change, when he questioned when prosecutors said he had about $8,000 in a bag they found in a bag with him at mcdonald's as well as a b

chris. >> thank you so much for that. there are officials who have expressed concern that he's become a folk hero, particularly online, from the moment this happened almost. now that mangione is in custody, do you think that there will be people, particularly in the law enforcement community who will want to limit his ability to communicate with the outside world, and can they? >> they could try, and it's odd that he would be a folk hero. this is not a single parent living from paycheck to paycheck for a sick kid. this is a rich kid from wealth and privilege. so his parents would be able to pay for any lack of insurance that he had. so this is not, to me, a role model for someone who's upset with the insurance. he has a life of wealth and privilege, and i'm sure, if he's indicted the manhattan d.a.'s office will stress that, to make sure the jury doesn't have sympathy from someone for wealth and privilege. >> that brings us to motive. new york city investigators say they have been trying to establish if there's a clear li

thanks, chris.k, the evidence so far from what we can tell just even in the public reporting is pretty overwhelming. he was caught. he matches the description and the video of the man who committed the offense. he's caught with his ghost gun and a suppresser. he gets fake i.d. to the police officers. the same fake i.d. that was used to check into the hostel in upper manhattan. there's so much here for prosecutors to use, not the least of which is this manifesto which gives motive. the prosecutors don't have to prove motive at all, but to have it is, obviously, helpful. i think what people are going to be looking at both on the defense and prosecution side is what the charge is. right now we know it to be murder two which is an intentional killing. in new york that's basically the highest murder there is except murder in the first-degree which carries with it special circumstances such as hate killings. here the only way to bump it up to a murder one would be if they could show it was somehow related
