well, it's been a roller coaster few years for former new jersey governor chris christie. so long ago, he was a hot pick to be the next president of the united states. a u.s. attorney with a track record of successful prosecutions of terrorists and white collar criminals among others, elected republican governor of the blue state of new jersey in 2009, he quickly earned a reputation as a straight-talking, take no prisoners chief executive, taking on public sector unions and slashing deficits. by 2012 he was being courted by top republicans to be the party's presidential candidate. but then came a series of setbacks. superstorm sandy and his unforgettable, and to some republicans, unforgivable moment of fraternity with president barack obama. the infamous traffic jam on the george washington bridge, though the governor wasn't charged with having any involvement in the scandal concerning payback against a political opponent, still, key members of his staff were implicated, and his reputation for hard but fair governance took a hit. and then along came donald trump. his unort

chris christie, thanks very much for joining me. mr. christie: my pleasure. how much of the chaos inst the white houss from throwing out your transition plan? mr. christie: i have always said about 75% of it. there is always chaos in the white house and especially with a president who has not been in public office before. but so many of these things were avoidable. we had set up 30 volumes of information, everying from white papers on policy proposals and how to implement them to vetting ofrs three people for every cabinet and senior staff position to a day one plan, 100-datplan, al200-day plan. of those things were thrown out. i think it ill served the president extraordinarily to have a small group of peop do it on the back of an envelope over 71 days, and that chaos,ar especially the chaos, was indicative of the bad decision. jane: you say in your book that in this environment it is almost impossible to catch can the president catch up? what can he do to salvage the next two years? mr. christie: i think what he needs to do is hit the reset button. i don't

what would have been different if chris christie's plan had been implement it? christie: to be i was the chairman of the transition but we had over one hundred 40 people working at an office in washington, d.c., from may to november on everything from personnel and having three different folks invented for every cabinet position in every senior staff position, we had executive orders drafted based upon what the venn candidate had talked about during the campaign. him allapers drafted the different subject matters, and he brought himself up in the camp when -- in the campaign. the 100 day plan, a 200 day plan on implementation. had a plan for every day of the transition, what stuff he should be focused on and what names he should be rolling out each day to set a theme and of course for the country that was organized, orderly, and effective in terms of managing public opinion. david: it does not seem like that is the way it played out. ori looked, think alice is may have been the only person who survived in the cabinet. one thing people also talked about -- we have
