perhaps some from the past like governor chris christie, larry hogan is a new face on the front, tom ben sass. i think those individuals will help define the republican party as we go forward and frankly my own view is that as a party we should return to some of our basic principles, believing character is critical, standing up against authoritarians like putin and kim jong-il. making sure we ultimately have fiscal responsibility. at the same time, i think there has to be a new strain recognized and that is we have to do a better job communicating and creating policies that show we care very deeply about working people in america. and that our policies are designed to help working people. and if we do that, i think we'll be able to retain many people that have come into our party during the term of president trump and build also on the base of our party that's been so critical over the years, people of integrity and kaurkt who are concerned about where some parts of our party headed over the last few years. >> mitt romney, senator from utah, thank you so much for joining me this morn

there is an argument to be made as chris christie his former ally and endorser and supporter said. if inciting insurrection isn't impeachable, nothing is. there is also the question that was raised by leslie stall in that question. what if he tried to pardon himself? that i believe would ultimately be struck down by judges but it has never been tried. if he tries to pardon everybody involved with inciting this insurrection, tries to offer general amnesty to the people who stormed the capitol, his supporters. these were never intended by the founders to be things a president could pardon for but it is broad language and an impeachment could restrict his ability to do that. that is a strong argument in addition. >> apparently he is expressing some regret for taping the video in which he is committing to a peaceful transition of power. and where he condemned the violence. i think that speaks volumes about where his head is at and whether he has learned a lesson. i also wonder margaret given what we saw in georgia just this past week where the republicans lost the senate seats, you now
