nbc's chris clackum joins us with the latest on the chaos in the cafeteria. >> reporter: franticed parents converged on chardon high school 30 miles outside cleveland as school was about to start monday morning. somebody shot five students inside the school and the parents fear their child would abamong the victims. >> absolutely scared out of my mind. it's very difficult anything to know that you can't be there to help them at a time like that. >> reporter: student witnesses say the shooting was in the school's cafeteria, a fellow student stood up and opened fire with a handgun. gunman fled from the school, but was arrested a short distance away. >> the alleged person who did the damage is in custody and the students are being evacuated from the high school to maple elementary school. >> reporter: four male students and one female were shot with a tragicout come for at least one of them. >> the sad united statnews i kn one deceased student now. >> reporter: police prepare charges against the suspect, the scenes here in chardon were conjuring up images of columbine of over a dead cade ago.

chris clackum, nbc news. of. >> the chief medical examiner was back on the stand today in the trial of the former university of virginia lacrosse player who's been charged with murder. the medical examiner testified that the victim yeardley love was intoxicated the night she died, but he said it wasn't enough to kill her. julie carey at the courthouse in charlottesville with more. julie? >> reporter: early on in this case we learned that the autopsy showed yeardley love died of blunt force trauma today prosecutors provided many more details to try to make their case that yeardley love was murdered. yeardley love's death came from blunt force injury to the head. that's a conclusion of assistant state medical examiner dr. william gormley, his findings backed up by separate evaluations by two brain experts. gormley said the trauma led to cardiac arrythmia. also revealed were toxicology results on love. the defense had requested a special test for amphetamines because love had a prescription for adderall. but he
