i want to go back to senator chris coons. what can you tell us about manafort and what he may or may not be able to provide your committee? do you agree with the decision all of a sudden to drop that subpoena? >> well, wolf, i think there remains a determination on the senate judiciary committee to have paul manafort testify in front of the committee. i think what you're seeing developing tonight is that the timing to have him in front of our committee tomorrow was just too tight and so efforts to bring him in this week before we likely go out on recess for august are being negotiated to instead have him appear in september. but that's just my hunch based on what i've heard from staff who have been communicating with senator feinstein's office. i don't think there's been any walking away from the senate judiciary committee from the idea that we need to have donald trump's former campaign manager come and testify about why he failed to register as a foreign agent given his significant indebtedness to folks close to the kremlin

joining us is democratic senator chris coons.senator. >> good morning, alisyn. >> the way this meeting has been described has been the gamut from nothing burger which we hear on the right, to approaching treason which we've heard on the left. so how do you categorize it? >> i think it's important that we all take a deep breath, continue our investigations, make sure we get the facts straight and understand this in the broader legal context. this is a striking development in that donald trump jr. received e-mails in which he was proved, told he might receive directly from a russian government attorney, that's what the e-mail said, information from a hostile power, russia, that was seeking to help his father win the presidential election, about his father's campaign opponent. just on the face of it, that forces aside all the things that have been said by trump campaign officials and the white house that there was no interaction with russians that was inappropriate. there was no attempt at collusion. this lays all that bare because

joining us democratic senator chris coons of delaware. i know you were also listening along with that anthony scaramucci interview whachlt do you hear from the white house director of communications? >> i thought that was a striking exchange. and i -- i almost don't know what to say in response. i mean, embedded in that very long exchange with chris cuomo were a couple of pretty striking suggestions. to me, the one that jumped out was that president trump might veto a very strong bipartisan russia sanctions bill. it came out of the senate 98-2. if that's not a veto-proof majority, i don't know what is. it came out of the house with an even greater margin. and it would impose new sanctions on russia and iran and on north korea. i think there's no doubt that all three of those countries are adversaries of the united states, pose a threat to the united states, and the idea that the president wouldn't embrace that leadership from the congress is pretty striking. of all the things that anthony scaramucci had to say, that one sort of jumped off
