abc's chris cuomo, the co-anchor of "20/20" again there on the island for us. morning, chris. >> reporter: good morning, robin. it's a beautiful day here in giglio, italy. the search operation has stopped. part of it is about movement within the ship. it's difficult for the rescuers. they say that ship was never meant to support its weight on the side. the other is about coming weather. we've all learned a new word here. it it is about winds out of the northwest. winds they believe could sweep the ship into the sea. new concerns it could sink to more than depths of 200 feet, threatening to rupture fuel tanks. experts are using an underwater robot to study the sea bed working to anchor theship. sensors placed on board to detect movement. this comes as francesco schettino finds a new defender. she's domenica cermotan, a 25-year-old maldovan and formership employee. crew members recognize her as the captain's companion. you know the girl? >> i saw that girl. >> reporter: the pair was seen leaving dinner in a hurry shortly before the crash. in an interview, cermota

abc's chris cuomo, co-anchor of "20/20" is back there this morning. good morning, chris. >> reporter: good morning, robin. it took more than an hour after this ship collided with the rocks to issue the evacuation order. why? fingers are pointed at the cruise operator, the company. originally, they said they didn't know what was going on. we now believe the cruise company had very good reason to know exactly where the captain was headed. . an eerie image overnight. the "costa concordia's" sister ship cruising near the island. a cruise much like the ill-fated trip that left this ship lying like a beached whale. a satellite photo now capturing the wreckage from space. underneath the water, this new video shows divers working with extreme condition, wading through shoulder-deep water, surrounded the dangling chandler, floating furniture. at one point, it became so dangerous, operations were suspended when the ship began tilting on the rocks. this morning, they're facing a harsh reality. this diver confirmed the mission is now to recover. not rescue. back i
