our weather presenter, chris fawkes joins me now from the newsroom. what's the outlook?s into the north sea coast. this was a south shields earlier today and we had a millimetres of rain or thereabouts across the wettest parts of scotland and it's been wet over the pennines and it's been wet over the pennines and into parts of north wales also the north midlands are seeing a lot of rain, and the rain has been causing big problems with flooding. five severe flood warnings in force in scotland for stretches of the river north and south esk bit as well as the severe flood warnings in scotland, we have 16 other flood warnings in scotland, five for wales and the hundred and 33 for england. the majority of those across the midlands where we saw disruption to transport and schools have been shot as well. the weather warnings, we have amber warning stretching from the north midlands to the scottish borders and as we go through this evening and overnight we get another batch of warnings in force for scotland including a renewed red warning across parts of angus and aberdeenshire

here's chris fawkes. we've been looking at some big contrasts this month.look at southern england where we've had lots of sunny and warm weather but also quite a few areas that have not seen a drop of rainfall this month but that is in sharp contrast to what has been happening in scotland where in aberdeenshire we had well over a month of rain. hundred and 20% of average rainfall and we are only a third of the way through the month so far. today we had big contrasts, 25 degrees in warm sunshine for london butjust 13 degrees in lerwick and shetland and the reason it is cooler here because we've seen a cold front moved through and over the next few days the cold air is going to push its way south across the uk and i say colder but for many of us those temperatures will be returning close to average for the time of year. here is the cold front, clearing south so dry in scotland where we've seen flooding the concerns and the rain eventually ending the night moving across northern ireland and ending up in northern england and north wales. mild for england and wa
